urgent question about armor scales

Hi all,

I´ve searched the forum, but haven´t found the best way to do it.
Now I ask you, how can I do the scales of an armour the best way. I´ve tried to use Projection Master with a tileable map, with many scales on it and it´s nearly impossible to do it that it fits correct. There are always stretches in the stamp due to the different angles of the object. I don´t mean the small stretches, it´s like if you project a square on a sphere, it will stretch massive if you view it from the side. If i do it with dragrect, I can forget about getting an uniform result.

Any tips?

Best Regards,
Josef

No good idea?

I currently doing it, more or less stamp by stamp, but this is tiring.
Is there no better way?

Cheers,
Josef

If you are on ZB 3.5 R3, have you tried the “hidden” brushes? Got to Lightbox and click on Brushes. There are some scales brushes there. Just replace the Alpha and paint away.

Hope that helps.

dsoellbuster, yes I´ve ZBrush 3,5 r3.
Thank you for the hint, i didn´t knew about it. But I´ve already build my own scalesBrush, with it´s own alpha. It´s working like those brushes. The only thing is, I still need to fix the places where the different brushstrokes meet together and this is very time consuming.

Thank you and best regards,
Josef

Hey Josef,

nobody ever said there is a one click solution. In the end detailing like that is work and yes time consuming. One other thing though, have you tried to use the stencil feature. Sometimes it can work wonders

All the best

dsoellbuster, I knew that. Thank´s for all your tips.
I´have used a method with brush and stencil mixed to fill the space in between the brushstrocks.

Josef
