Upgrading to Windows 8 - and re-installing Zbrush

Hi all, I think I am going to take the plunge and upgrade to Windows 8 Pro.

Can I just be clear on the process that I need to follow so I don;t mess up my Zbrush installation. Apologies if this is a bit of a basic question, keen not to mess things up.

  1. Deactivate Zbrush from within Zbrush.
  2. Wipe my drive and re-install Windows 8.
  3. After getting over the shock and awe of Win 8  I reinstall Zb 4r4 from the 4r4 installer.exe
  4. Now, I need to do the online activation, I have 2 activation keys, the one I received when I bought Zb in the first place (4r4) and one I received when I upgraded to 4r4 patch 2. Presumably I would use the original activation key? Which one should I use?

I assume by the lack of queries in the forum that 4r4 works fine in Win 8 - although I hear elsewhere about issues with Wacom drivers causing Intuos issues. Anybody know any more on that?

Many thanks for any thoughts
Steve

Activation keys are single use codes. You cannot reuse them. You only need to keep track of your serial number, which has been the same for all releases of Z4.

After installing 4R4 again, open its folder and run ZUpgrader to download and install the P2 patch.

After that, launch ZBrush and do Web Activation to get a new activation key.

Any reason you’re wiping your drive? Rather than just updating your operating system I mean

Thanks Aurick, that makes more sense!!

Gordon, my experience in the past is that a clean install is always less prone to errors/problems afterwards. Given I am on Win 7 Pro going to Win 8 Pro it may well be that it isn’t such a big deal this time. Guess I’m just old fashioned!
