Unified skin

Was having a play…decided to skin a really basic head made out of a sphere3d…skinned it and modelled this. Definitly not they way to model for the faint-hearted, however it can be done. Although it is difficult to achieve, skinning does have its merits, and also failings. Detail is harder to achieve, but smooth areas come up wonderfully. Notice above the eye…the mesh changes there…no amount of smoothing, or modelling could eliminate the bumps. Still no big deal…it is only a play model. I think with some actual planning before modelling a skinned object one would eliminate the bump problems. However I never plan, I just decide to model something…

hi ed, although as you have said this is just a play model I think its quite impressive . I’m very interested to the z-sphere model that has generated this face.
Not so long ago I was experimenting with unfied skinning for faces , mainly for defining important and higher desity areas on the mesh then form , and I found the epxerience very rewarding. I think its much easier to achieve correct volume and form becuase the topology does’nt really flow in any direction and this also means a decrease in resolution to reach completion.
I think quite a valid technique but I personally prefer to build detail and resolution up slowly rather then to have a highes model straight up.

Thanks for sharing your experiments

Kircho

Hi Kircho…thanks.

The original model used was the one in the top right hand corner of this pic…I altered dramatically once skinned.

In fact the lot you see below were done in 4hrs, including the model at the top and one other Hobbit type I can’t find. The hobbit type below was made from scratch…I have modelled that before so it was quite fast to do again. There were only two meshes used twice in this lot, the rest are new. Still surprises me the speed with which one can work in Zbrush.

These are also play models…I do this for relaxation.

Cool gallery of partraits modeling!

Thanks FP,

As an aside I have been meaning to ask what is the best 3d software out there to take a zbrush mesh and make it more uniform without losing detail? I seem to remember it is possible, and beneficial…But I can’t remember the hows or whys.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Exellent once again ed :)…I find sculpting in zb quite relaxing also…acept for the fact that it burns the eyes alittle too much :))…but non the less its good practice. Its very easy to sea that you’ve become comfortable with your craft and way of artistic expression…funnily enough , to my dismay , its the first time I’m putting together your name and the images I’m viewing .

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Regards

Kircho

Ps - I’m currently working on two tutorials using paraform and Cyclice to make the mesh more animtable and uniform with minimal loss of detail for another member on these forums so as soon as I have them completed I will make a link available in your PM

These soulfull portraits scream out with true meaning and matter. Inspirational, educated and powerful statements that might degrade my own pitious efforts, and mock my meagre understandings.

For relaxation. No! Revelation! Oh what if you tried!

The sun itself would dim a little in courteous remark.

Congratulations.

My before bed model…thrown about abit, a little breezy in my monitor.

For you antimorph

Respect!

(I love it when anyone says my name around here)

As Antimorph has said these are utterly fantastic.
As Antimorph has said the collection is a mind blower.
As Antimorpn has said any elaboration on how they were done would be appreciated.
At least that’s what I think Antimorph said.

Hi rtyer

It’s hard being anti-solipsistic.

Identity, it’s a devilish thing. I have not mastered it, I swear it writhes, and squirms and crawls back under the doors and each time I kick it out, it comes back.

Maybe it is enough to reason with it.

This one is a new mesh sphere3d…certainly easier to model, unfinished though.

Rtyer…thanks…How is it done? I have any amount of Zscripts about this place…if interested look for ones within the past year or so.

sweet modeling ed! i could tell that these were your models when i first saw the thumbnails. you have a really cool style! i like how you are so loose with your models in zbrush! cool heads!
