Unified Skin woes

OK. Major upset.

I marked my objects
I made object with multimarker tool
I created a PolyMesh 3D
I made unified skin (highest resolution)

here is the VERY poor outcome. Any ideas? Any success stories?

Double Post… grrrrrr…

Wrong smoothing level!

PS:Hover with the mouse over the options and press ctrl to see the help for them. It will quickly dawn on you what the problem is.

As lemonnado said, the smoothing is off. You’ve changed the Tool>Unified Skin>Smt value to 0. This tells ZBrush not to smooth the resulting mesh at all, which results in a feature called Cubical Skinning. You can see from your image why it’s called that.

Experiment with the various Unified Skin options to get a better feel for them. Or just hold down the Ctrl key and hover the cursor over one.

Here is my tests with smoothing values. They ALL suck. I have no clue what it is doing with the hole in the top of the head!!!

Let me ask… what do you wish to achieve with the Unified Skin Tool? I use it sparely in low sub divisions as it’s principle will either tough up or smudge/melt your surfaces.

Regarding the hole, did you start of from a ZBrush Sphere?

If yes, then the SPhere has a hole at the ‘pole’. Actually a pretty bad piece of geometry to work with as it has overlapping vertices and other evil things going on up there.

I only use subdivided cubes as spheres or start of with a box. Other elements have been proven to be rather ‘evil’ while causing trouble way down the road. However, this is an attribute of all systems which use an algorithm to greate base geometry. It happens in other systems than ZBrush as well. It is somewhat universal.
