understanding how to import textures

 HI, When I want to use a prefabricated texture which has the TIF extension one of another way it doesn’t load up in ZBrush. I don’t understand why because Zbrush offers the possibility to import, BMP,JPG, PSD and TIF files. What is going wrong? Another question which extension to use for best result and in preventing jagged edges as much as possible? Some help wanted, thanx in advance.

 Have a good one! regards;JeeWee

The TIF format is generally not going to import into ZBrush. There are many variations on the format, and most of them are not supported. Use PSD.

As for jaggies, that has nothing to do with file format. It’s mostly due to texture resolution. The larger the texture, the smoother the edges can be due to the fact that there are more pixels along that edge.

However, the black edges that you’re showing in your illustration are due to transparency. In order for ZBrush to show part of a texture as transparent, that area must be PURE 0,0,0 black. Even one digit off (like 0,1,0) will not be transparent. So when setting up a texture to be transparent it’s best to avoid things like Photoshop’s antialiasing feature due to the fact that it blends edges which in turn changes the color values along those edges.
