Unable to mask or hide geometry

So I have been working on a character and he is in multiple subtools. One certain subtool, his legs, I can’t drag a mask around any of it. I can paint it on, but I can’t CTRL+Drag a selection to mask. I also can’t invert or clear the mask by clicking out in the open. I can’t mask with the transform tools either.

I figured maybe I should try to hide a part of it and try… Well If I hide any geometry Zbrush crashes… Every time…
And it is only on this one subtool. It was fine before I cut the character into pieces, but that was also a long time ago. I have put a lot work into it.

Any solutions? I didn’t see anyone else who was having the same problem.

Sounds like you introduced an anomaly in your geometry, in your UVs, or both.

hmm…never seen it before.

try to clone the subtool save it out by itself and see if the new version without the other subtools has the same error.

Tried that one… no luck.

And what do you mean dustinbrown? what kind of anomaly? I don’t know how to tell or fix it. :frowning:

i have gotten crashes when masking partially hidden geometry.
anyway i would export the highest level as an obj. , import, then reconstruct. also i’d leave it as its own tool and test first. then try to append back into your main tool.
i’ve have had strange things happen from time to time where it was best to reconstruct a whole tool group this way.

I had tried that spaceboy… But to reconstruct you need UV’s. I don’t have any. What I ended up doing to fix it though was I ended up going back to a save before I had cut him into pieces. I took that old file and cut that ones legs off, made sure I could get it to mask and what not, then I just projected all the newer details onto the old one.

It worked pretty well… I had just recently discovered that the hands were doing it too. I got them all working now though… I just retopologized everything and projected all. :stuck_out_tongue:

I appreciate the help from you guys  It was probably just some random bug.

you don’t actually need any type of uv’s you just needed to hit the enableuv button.

I tried that. And it only gives back 1 subD level. I was reading around and from what I understand if you want to go back to a very lowest subD level then it works better if you have UVs for it.

I did try though, but like I said it only gave me one back.
