Unable to connect to external renderer

I’m trying to link to Keyshot. I have version 5.3 installed. I have ZBrush 4R8 P2 installed. It was working fine before I downloaded P2. The folks at Keyshot are worthless and offered no help at all. Odd as I seem to remember giving them money. Thank you for your time.

Your Keyshot is two versions out of date, so it’s not unreasonable to expect issues from new software designed to interact with the most recent KS version, as well as diminished support.

That said, sometimes the initial keyshot launch and send doesn’t work. Try to send again once Keyshot is already open.

If that doesn’t work, I 'm not sure what to tell you. KS bridge had to be updated to work with Ks7 in P2, which is somewhat different than older versions. Pixologic doesn’t do any support for KS for ZB beyond providing the serial, and if Luxion has decided to no longer offer support for obsolete versions, there’s not much to be done.

If it’s a KS Bridge issue, you can try contacting Pixo support, but I also think you should consider upgrading before you get shut out of the upgrade pricing window.

Spyndel, thanks for your reply. I’m sorry but I don’t follow your line of reasoning. I’m glad Pixologic doesn’t either. I purchased their product years ago and they still support me and give me free upgrades.

Keyshot is dead to me. DEAD! I’ll never give those rat bastards another dime. Marmoset ftw. Peace, my friend.

Ah yes, but Pixologic doesn’t support Zbrush 2 or 3 any longer. They only support the most recent version of the software, which they’ve been content to give to registered users for free up til now, but that may change at some point.

As I said, you can try contacting Pixo support and making the case that it’s an issue with the bridge. That’s probably even accurate. I’m sure that would be Luxion’s position. I have no idea what Pixologic’s position would be and how much legacy support they’re willing to provide, but they’re usually pretty helpful if they can be.

But there’s no getting around the fact that your KS version is significantly out of date, and sooner or later obsolete software stops working with up top date software and OS. Seriously consider upgrading while it’s still cheap to do so.

OK Scott, I’ll think about it when I cool down. Have a pleasant weekend.

Don’t listen to me. Im just a random guy. Try making a Pixo support ticket and see what they say first.

Your not going mad buddy…Its happened to me…unable to connect to external renderer since the P2 patch. Its as if the P2 zbrush cant see your existing bridge licence file. Put a support ticket in…the guys on support are brilliant and im confident they will offer a fix.

It cant be down to what version of the “keyshot for Zbrush” your using. The upgrade to Keyshot 6 was an optional paid upgrade…not compulsory

All updates are optional. So is the decision to update another inter-dependent piece of software (like ZBrush) or an operating system. But if you keep updating one but not the other, eventually you have to expect problems. It’s one link in a chain. If you want everything to work forever, you have to freeze your hardware and software environment.

Changes had to be made to the Bridge in p2 in order to get it to work correctly with Keyshot 7, which is slightly different from older versions. Chances are it broke something in older versions. Im not saying Pixologic wont or shouldn’t support it if it’s a Bridge issue–definitely contact Support and see what they say. But eventually it will become impractical to support obsolete versions.

Ks5 is three years old now, and two major release versions behind. The upgrade pricing for ZB to KS is quite reasonable. My best advice remains to take advantage of it while it still is.

Scott, you pointed out ZBrush doesn’t support older versions. They don’t have to because they upgrade for free. For life!

Keyshot is a rinky dink little company with the morals of a drug dealer. I supported them when they came on the scene, and now they want to charge me more for a marginally better software while disabling the older software.

Screw Keyshot. Marmoset ftw!

sigh…seems like you have to bite the bullet and pay $80 to make the bridge work again. Just upgraded to Keyshot 6 and all works well again
