UHF-Head WIP

Well, more than a year has slipped by.

Though I’d jump back in… finally had a found bit of time for sculpting. We’ve been working on the new GroBoto mesh stuff and modeling tools. I’ll update my GroBoto Lab Work thread with details on our progress soon.

Anyhow, I’ll start posting some stuff here – all of it in the earliest stages of sculpting – mostly getting a feel for what’s possible with the new meshes. With any luck, I’ll pick a few of these recent experiments and take them farther.

Thanks for stopping by,
Darrel

Another quick sculpt based on a GroBoto mesh.

As I mentioned in the last post, I’ve got a bunch of these, and hope to find time to develop a few. For now I’m getting a sense of the workflow… best configuration of the base mesh primitives, output mesh density, effects of various ZBrush tools when combined with masking, etc.

We’ve made quite a few improvements in the GroBoto mesh generation (look closely and you’ll find plenty of little flaws – & areas that could be cleaner), so likely I’ll go back and re-mesh some of my GroBoto models before getting serious about sculpting… fortunately, regenerating meshes takes one mouse-click.

Thanks for the visit,
Darrel

Cool stuff man! Pre-ordered gb3- can’t wait!! :sunglasses: :+1:

Hey Super G,

Thanks… and thanks for you patience.

GroBoto’s reworked mesh generation is much better than our first pass a year ago. The meshes will get cleaner and more fluid in the coming months… but remain fully automatic.

Here’s another quick bit. Revisiting my old ‘BlocHeads’… but again, much nicer for sculpting now.

Darrel

that recent head sculpt is dope…love the exaggeration!

Thanks Sarakawa,

Likewise, I dig the clean-stylized look of your Metal Gear character (nice pencil in that thread sketch too).

Here’s a bit of cartoony character experimentation with GroBoto & Z. I see a lot of potential – easy to move between mechanical/articulate and organic.

Cheers,
Darrel

Very clean! I bought Groboto a couple months ago, and had fun messing around with it, but haven’t had the time to really dig in. The little time I did have was enjoyable though! I hope to do some work sometime this year using it with ZBrush and modo.

Hi James,

Thanks. Still just experimenting… but that’s most of my artistic life.

You’ll definitely have some new options once you get the v3 beta – especially if you want to take GroBoto Stuff into ZBrush. You’ll get a notice when it’s ready.

Here’s a variation on the previous post. That’s one of the nice aspects – reworking things in GroBoto with no worries about morphology/topology. A new mesh is created automatically.

Darrel

great and beautiful :+1:

……:stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks OBBI & okwang,

Here’s another GroBoto/ZBrush WIP. A variant of one of my Bugs from last year (enzo – a few pages back in this thread). Remodeled in GroBoto and exported with the new SeamNet mesh.

If I planned to pose him it would be wise to go back and divide him into several meshes… that would enable posing while maintaining discreet articulated joints.

wow that’s so cool - I’d really love to try this thing, looks promising:+1:

Darrel,

Thanks for comment
I wait grobot 3, im very very very curious for future project…
see your inbox…

Thanks yfchild… got your message – look forward to seeing what you create once we get the beta ready.

Intervain, would be great to see how you might fit this tool into your work. I’ve admired your stuff here on ZBC… grace, beauty & elegance… & humor too. Also love you 2D work – first image on your site is wonderful.

…here’s another BlocHead, ‘Stitch’. The meshes were created a while back and are a bit funky. I’m sure I’ll go back and re-mesh these guys before having another go at sculpting.

very cool ever retopo over any? :+1: :+1:

Hey Gary,

Thanks.

Actually, as this evolves we hope to eliminate a lot of the need for retopo… by providing control of density locally and improving the flow overall. That’s more a discussion for my ‘GroBoto/ZBrush Synergy’ thread, and I hope to get back there soon to better explain what we are working on.

…come back and tricky method for obtain appetizing forms! :+1:

Thanks Frenchy…

Just emerging from a big push to get the first GroBoto Beta out. We now have a Mac beta version that exports these auto-generated SeamNet meshes.

Here’s an Architectural experiment.

I like you groboto stuff. Why don’t you try some of the noise brushes to add some stone texture and emboss bits with projection master??

Cavity masking, patch masking, alphas in gB??? What??
What does the wire look like on that?
Dude, I can’t wait to dive into 3!!

Looks awesome!!
