Thank you for the links.
That is very cool! …and transcending functional Booleans no less.
This is the first *software that does what it says it does, and imports flawlessly into ZB4. (so far)
very nice.
*not saying that other software is not good or compatible with ZB, (GoZ is great!) but GroBoto is the only one I’ve used with ZB without errors.
Hello sadicus,
Thanks. Very glad to hear it. Going forward, we plan on much more than high compatibility with ZBrush. We see ways to export additional data to ZB (most likely vis GoZ), that will leverage the special structure of GroBoto’s modeling and mesh structure to the fullest.
Here’s another ‘stolen’ hour with the MechSkeeto. Added a new GroBoto mesh as a subtool – a bit more detail.
I think the whole piece no suffers a bit from busy-ness – to many competing elements (similar scale, level of detail, color, etc.). That can be helped with better lighting and polypaint/texturing to differentiate those elements – however, I plan on some changes on the modeling level first… still exploring.
Eventually more sculpting.

Darrel

Hi all,
Early WIP.
I think this character may have made an earlier appearance on this thread?
I was testing mesh output and thought his mesh looked especially inviting. So much more than earlier meshes before GroBoto’s smoothing options – could not resist one very quick ZBrush pass.
All very preliminary, but I’m liking the way the mesh is responding.

Very very nice Darrel
This is all about groboto, a real sculpting instrument,
not to say ‘imagine’ this but “my god, imagine this” as my favorite writer P.Dick could say.
Reminds me a similar groboto approach here.

Thanks very much michalis,
I absolutely love your quirky Picassoesque GroBoto Portrait.
I know that language can be a barrier (and I wish I could at least meet you half-way). However, I completely understand what you have been saying about GroBoto and the creative process. …and BTW P.K.Dick is definitely a favorite of mine too.
Here is another quick ZBrush session with the latest GroBoto Creature model (see previous post for GroBoto setup). Splashed on some polypaint just for fun – yes, I know it’s premature, and symmetrical, but that’s one of the joy’s of digital graphics… no penalty for play & exploration).

Wow, lovely!
Well here my ‘gift’ a texture for quick painting on metals.
As always, mask by density and some broad strokes helps a lot.

Hello michalis,
Thanks for the Texture Map. Played a bit – Very nice.
You almost managed to get me going on finishing some of these models I’ve posted her over the last couple of months.
I know how important those finishing touches are… and it is always a very rewarding and enjoyable phase in the evolution of a piece. I simply can not afford the time.
As I’ve mentioned, the only way I justify what little time I spend in ZBrush is by tying it directly to GroBoto testing. It’s a very valid justification, but only up to a point. Anything that can be thought of as finishing a piece falls outside of that scope. Of course I do cheat, and go a bit farther with these works than I really should.
I should also note that I do enjoy the early stages – the explorations – as much or more than the finish. So I’m not unhappy jumping from one piece to the next.
All that said, I do miss doing art – maybe I will have that pleasure again some day soon.
Best Wishes,
Darrel
Hi everyone,
OK, I actually could not resist.
More polyPaintPlay… again modeling is not done ('tho I did address a few things since the last post), so I’ll probably step back and may need to repaint.
Again, you can see the GroBoto Mesh setup for this a couple of posts back.

Really liking this latest creation of yours…Great fantasy appeal…totally unique…
Keep Inspired and Inspiring Darrel…
Hey SpiritDreamer,
Thanks. Just exploring & getting comfortable with ZB again – has been over a year since anything more than cursory play with polypaint and other detail stuff.
Here’s a a variation, refined some of the sculpting, more polypaint – maybe progress, who knows – as mentioned, just playing, shaking off rust.
Groboto setup can be seen a few posts back.

Hello everyone,
Big News…
GroBoto v3 OS X has been released.
Site link in my signature.
I’ll have more to say about that here soon (and will detail things in a more appropriate sub-forum on ZBC). We plan on offering some special discounts to ZBrush Artists.
In the mean time – insanely busy with that release and follow-up. So all I can mange here is some flotsam from testing… But it’s interesting flotsam.
Unified GroBoto SeamNet mesh from a 2000 object Bot.
All of 2 minutes of ‘sculpting’ in ZB (a few swipes with the Strong Smooth Brush – with and without GroBoto’s Seam Masking in play).

Looks cool Darrel, reminds me of the early IBM digital fractal sculptures by William Latham
Your last portraits are excellent Darrel. BTW these are more fractal than the last posted. More information on them IMO, more nature captured.
Thanks for the excellent v3 uploading. Smooth performance, indeed.
Thanks michalis,
Yes, It’s fun to take these models another step or two.
GroBoto v3 release has kept me from doing any ZB stuff over the past week or two… but I managed to sneak in a GroBoto-Roboto doodle this morning.
Any ZBrushers interested in GroBoto would be smart to check out the GroBoto site (link below)… a very special offer coming up.

Usual GroBoto setup… Primitive & Boolean Modeling, the Automated SeamNet Mesh

Hi everyone,
Way too busy here with GroBoto release follow-up, but I thought I’d toss in some ‘Lab Work’. 15min of conjuring up a bunch of different treatments to the Rods & Nodes in this simple GroBoto model – not refined, just poking around to see what might be evoked.
The mesh at each node is essentially identical, so it just a matter of which tool or deformation was applied, along with how the masking UV’s and PolyGroups exported by GroBoto were brought into play.
I chose options in GroBoto for a smoothed & beveled mesh – you can see how it diverges from the simple primitive surfaces in the composite image.
BTW.
Please go here for info on that Special GroBoto Offer mentioned in my last post.

'git that Winversion out! Some of us poor sods don’t have a Mac. Yes, I pre-ordered, so now is to make happy time.
Damn fine airship!
Hey markkens,
Thanks.
Yes, I know we have asked for a lot of patience from everyone that pre-ordered v3… and imagine seeing us out there promoting (and even asking for everyone’s help in promoting) could be a bit irritating.
To everyone waiting for v3 Windows, please know… we are doing all of this is so we can climb out of a hole, see a little cash flow, and focus on development. Currently (and for quite some time), our tiny crew’s time has been split between development the myriad other tasks required (web sites, forums, promotion, documentation, support, etc.).
By releasing the Mac version, (and making sure we catch the small-but-vital wave that release generated), we hope to bring more human resources into play. That means a Windows v3 release sooner and – more importantly – the ability to build rapidly on the solid foundation, over two years in the making.
Our greater goal is a vital v3 cycle with many feature additions and enhancements, leading to more creative power & joy for all of you. This is quite personal with me. I will measure success by seeing GroBoto – through the work of those who use it – add something significant to creativity & productivity in digital Art.
Best Wishes,
Darrel
Just browsing through your site and saw this pic here:
http://www.groboto.com/v3/Samples/output/files/tankerweb.jpgCool Tanker Render.
Was this rendered entirely in GroBoto? I really like the toon outline and tones of the render. Very cool.
