Tyrannosaurus rex "retro"

Hello everybody, this is my first post in this forums

Here it is the latest render I’ve been working on, it is a dinosaur, but with a retro style, trying to imitate their first representations, that is the image that people had of them until the end of the 20th century.

Dinosaurs were shown as heavy reptiles that walked slowly and not as the agile warm blood creatures that the latest discoveries seem to point out.

The works of masters of stop motion like Willis O’Brian and Harryhausen, that did prehistoric themed scenes, were also a source of inspiration for this image, that’s why it has this scale model appearance.

I would also like to thank Angel Navarro for his advice on organic modeling and ZBrush techniques, that were really useful to make the image.

I hope you like it. crits and comments are welcome

modeling and texturing looks great
my comment would be that you could use more lights to add highlights to your prop models

Sweet! This is very nice work overall.

Nice work, reminds me of the crappy rubber dinosaurs i played with as a kid. No Goofy inspired jurassic park T-Rex in them days.

Top notch !:+1:

Welcome tucho, you’ve captured the essence of the ‘Retro Dino’. The tail-dragging T-rex was just more fun. Looks like it walked of the mural at the Museum of Natural History. Ever consider doing ‘Garage Kits’? 50.

Very cool,I love dinosaurs and I msut say that you’ve captured the retro style vey well, nice job ! 5 Stars

Thanks a lot for your comments guys

I agree, render and lighting are my weak spots

wow fantastic details on those materials. The retro style of the T Rex almost makes it look friendly hehe. My only possible critique would be that his skin is a bit monotone and perhaps more colour variation would make it more appealing but I suppose thats not very retro?

wow, this is a really nice job. refreshing to not see the same old representation of t-rex. i really admire the clean style you worked in, especially that base mesh. great stuff! :+1:

Nice post :+1:

I really like this. Very cool. I would go into some variation on the scales and perhaps give it more of setting with a day time lighting scenario.

awesome!

thanks to everybody for your comments

Perhaps I will try to integrate this dinosaur in a real scenario with another ilumination later, but now I’m tired of this model and I prefer make another characters :stuck_out_tongue:

nice retro t-rex in 3d, very believable.
