Two bugs, extract smooth and create difference.

These are bugs that affect my workflow and from my perspective they
are a HUGE problem for my day to day character creation in ZBrush.

Bug number 1:
I have a plane with eight polygons in the shape of a rectangle.
Under tool, subtool, extract, I set the smoothness to 0. That is zero.
When I hit extract smoothing still takes affect, the plane rounds at
the edges.

Bug number 2:
I decide to work around the extract bug.
I have the same plane (eight polygons, rectangle shape).
I set a morph target, I transpose move the plane.
I hit ‘create difference’. In the tray I see my creation.
It is the shape I wished for, excellent.
But now the geometry is broken in that 1) colorizing this makes it
look crazy and 2) it has a partial mask over it that can not be removed.

To work around this second bug I have to export the geometry into
Modo, select ‘cleanup mesh’, then get it back into zbrush - BUT not by
importing on top of the original messed up geometry. If I do that the
cleanup mesh will be broken again. I have to import it over geometry
that is not broken.

Please help

 Workflow? Not sure why you’d start with a plane for character creation? ? ? :confused:Zsphere armatures are the way to go followed by adaptive skin…IMHO

Did you see his gallery? His skills are amazing, I think he knows how to model characters.

Hi Doug,
The example of the plane is the clearest way to describe the problem.

Paul Gaboury at Pixologic got back to my email inquiry.
“use Panel Loops. Turn the Bevel and Polish to 0 and turn the Loops to 1. Make sure Double is still on and then adjust your thickness and click on the Panel Loop button. You will get what you are looking for.”

This works for me!
I believe setting smooth to -0- should eliminate smoothing though, and ‘create difference’ breaking the mesh is a known issue.

Thanks!
