Two annoying bugs (solved)

I am getting 2 annoying bugs while sculpting in zB 4

  1. Unexpectedly the mesh likes to zoom out as though i clicked the scale (but I didn’t) in the middle of brushing with the alt key held down (reverse brush).

  2. As I am sculpting the brush will decide to shoot a straight line from where my pen tip is to the top left hand corner of the screen.

SYSTEM

  • Windows 7 (running zBrush as admin)
  • Cintiq 21UX tablet monitor

Any idea what is going on here and how i can stop it?

Thanks!

Regarding the first issue, tweak your Preferences/Interface/Click Timing and Click Distance until you don’t have that problem. I think lowering the Timing is what sorted that for me, it was long ago and I’ve forgotten exactly, but it was the problem.

Regarding the second issue, I get that very rarely with my tablet, (wacom CTE) but I don’t have a fix. I just undo when it happens.

Zooming in real close on a site area of the model and then trying to rotate it will sometimes cause my models to disappear and or revert/snap back to last position it was displayed in before I tried to rotate it. Sounds a lot like your problem.

As for the line shooting across your model. I experienced this as well but I know what did it. I was zoomed into a specific area of my model. I had lazy mouse on and with a stroke setting at 61 I believe. I dragged the brush over the area and continued beyond the display windows border to keep the pull against the line going, and that caused the same shot line drop effect you got.

Wish I could solve the zoom and rotate issue. Zooming back out and rotating it and then zooming back usually solves it, but it still rather annoying. If you’re targeting a certain area you have to keep doing this zoom out, rotate, zoom in dance to work on that area.

I’ve had the bug with the straight line with an intuos4. I tried plugging in an old intuos2 to see if it was something that was maybe due with the fourth gen, but no, 2 does it too. I read in another thread about someone also having that problem with painter … but I don’t have painter.

Kinda annoying and yes, i know a simple undo would do, but I’d rather have a real explanation and possible bug fix as to why this happens?

And thanks for the first issue, I’ve had that happen more recently with zbrush4, so i’ll have to tweak settings for it.

It’s Alive,

This is caused because Right-click Navigation is on by default. Turn off Preferences>Interface>RightClick Navigation and save the configuration with Shift+Ctrl+i and all will be well.

Thanks guys for the help

Hi!,

Many thanks. This also solved a problem with WinXP64 and a Cintiq12" where the alt button no longer took you from ZAdd to ZSub to ZSub to ZAdd. Go preferences_interface_turn of right click navigation : problem solved. Thanks again!

Johannes

Any solutions for the first problem Marcus? I tried altering the click distance and timing settings as suggested by Extra Dimensional but they haven’t solved the problem for me.

Nolan,

Try turning off Preferences>Edit>Auto Select SubTool.

Thanks for getting back to me Marcus, but no joy with your suggestion I’m afraid.
My problem appears to differ slightly from Twoods’ in that it is associated with the use of the Shift key, not the Alt key. If I might describe how to replicate the problem…

Hold the shift key as if you were about to use the smooth brush, then hold your stylus above your tablet and make several small, quick back and forth strokes (the stylus should be close to the tablet surface but not in contact with it).

The view Zooms in expectedly and often more than once.

I was wondering if there is a shortcut to zooming the view that might be being activated here that could be disabled? Anyone have any ideas?

After another search I found this thread which addresses my problem, but unfortunately doesn’t offer a solution…

It appears these stylus movements are invoking a feature called Mouse Gestures.

Any thoughts on how to disable or work around this feature?

Nolan,

I’m afraid the feature can’t currently be disabled.

Ah well, maybe in ZB5…

Thanks for getting back to me with a definitive answer.
