Trying to project details from one mesh to another...aaaarrgh!

Hi everyone. I hope someone can tell me where I’m goofing this up.

I have two identical meshes. One has a lot of detail (high_detail), the other has a similarly high poly count, but no detail (low_detail). The reason I have them is because the high_detail was actually a separate head and body, and after combining the two, I now have a head/body as a single mesh, but no details from the original (yet).

Anyway, I watched Cannedmushrooms excellent video (lesson 19) and followed along step by step. All worked fine until I tried the steps to project the detail from the high_detail to the low_detail.

  1. I select a ZShphere.
  2. Tools.Rigging.Select Mesh (choosing high_detail#1 cloned tool).
  3. Tools.Topology.Select Topo (chose the low_detail#1 cloned tool)
  4. Here, I should see the topo zspheres all light up like a xmas tree, and then Tools.Projection should project details from High_detail onto Low-Detail. Right?

Here’s the problem: no Xmas tree. After selecting the low_detail, nothing happens. I tried toggling the Edit Topology button…nothing.

Am I missing something? Or is there an easier way to project the details from one to the other? Sorry if this is confusing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And a BIG thanks to Cannedmushrooms for his great tuts.

Okay, I discovered that if I append the low_detail tool to the high_detail tool, select the low_detail tool and then Subtool.ProjectAll, the details came through. So the problem is solved, however, it still doesn’t explain why the Xmas tree method didn’t work. And what is the difference between the two?

Any enlightenment would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks everyone.
