The title says it all! I’m after a good ‘real world’ anatomical figure. Not lifesize, as I can’t afford one that big! Anyone point me in the right direction please?
Yes, that the classic ecorche style fugure by Houdon!
Great site by the way, many interactive flash ecorche illustrations, but unfortunately no actual figures for sale
Very nice site though with some excellent resources and interesting links.
Thanks Frenchy!
havent seen a reall good quality Houdon figure in a LONG time. the molds are all wasted. The Freedom of Teach one is very good. Not as artistic but still very good.
Thankyou for the info and links fella’s Much appreciated.
I’m considering sculpting my own now actually, since I have plenty of 2D reference material. I never realised they cost quite that much!
Are these types of figures considered sought after? Are they hard to come by even? (they seem to be) What would be the ‘ideal’ size, if anyone here were to consider purchasing one? Ideal price? Yeah, I know, FREE!! but seriously, what would you consider a fair but realistic price?
Sorry for all the question. I just see a possible oportunity to make loads of ca. . . err, I mean help people out here!
Hi Angelstein,
The price does depend on the size, material and detail. Most of the better ones tend to be about 24" as anything less results in difficulty in seeing detail (especially when your eyes are ageing out). Most are plaster - which is delicate. The one from the link is pretty tough and detailed - I have one! It’s not cheap but you need only one good model. If you can do one cheaper - go for it!

I am have been working a 3d model similar to these. I wouldn’t just use them for reference though. The model I’m working on is my signature.
Yeah, Womball. That’s ecorche alright Nice work mate.
I have been making plans to sculpt one myself. What is more important, if I’m to make castings, is getting my process correct. In the past my attempts haven’t been entirely sucessful If nothing else I’ll have an ecorche anatomy figure of my own. I was thinking of something 30 inches tall?
You should check www.anatomicalfigures.com, 24" tall cast resin ecorche figures, much less expensive than life size figures. Highly detailed.
outside of something in a European academy’s cast hall (or a few in the US), this is the best selection of anatomical casts that I’ve seen. MUCH better than any contemporary stuff IMHO

Anatomy figures and studies are available on the following website: http://www.keropiansculpture.com/anatomy_sculpture.html
I am currently creating two new Houdon L’Ecorche figures that are accurate to the life size sculpture created by Houdon.
