Tryin' to build this in Z... wondering how you'd do it.

Hey there, I’m trying to sculpt something like this (the spiral groove along the stick) in ZBrush… and I’m wondering how you’d do it. I need it to be “perfect” (all grooves need to be equally spaced, at the same angle, etc.)

I remember seeing a tutorial somewhere using the curve standard brush or something like it, to sculpt with all the points of the curve, but I can’t find it… and I’m not quite sure this is the way to go.

Your thoughts ?

Many thanks !

J.

Start with a cube and dynamesh it. After that use the twist deformation in the Tool>Deformation>Twist then just add in a cylinder and size it accordingly. Tweak and adjust and duplicate to get the desired look and feel. Dynamesh as necessary along the way.

Thx for the tip, but I ended up building an helix in cinema4D, importing it back in Z and using dynamesh to substract the helix from the cylinder. Worked pretty good.

Thanks again

There’s a Helix3D in ZBrush with adjustable parameters, a.) it didn’t work? or b.) you didn’t find it?
