Hello everyone,
recently I finally got to try out the TBrush program, and I’ve been playing around with it a bit. I’m really only starting with it and trying to learn different tools and all. A couple of days ago I found this nice tutorial on how to create something similar to what I have in mind, and it was one of those sped up tutorials, which doesn’t show every single move, as it’s meant for advanced users, so I’m having some issues with basics.
The thing that I’m struggling with, and haven’t found a solution anywhere in tutorials or anywhere else, is when I create a cylinder (with VDivide at 3, so length-wise there is only 1 poly, though when I click and move the cylinder around, it jumps to 4, not sure why) and try to use ZModeler on it to change the size of it. In a tutorial I see the person using QMesh with Polyloop to decrease the cylinder’s width along the whole thing, but while when I try it, it only shrinks the middle, and leaves the top and bottom at the original size, and I have no idea why. Also, any other option that I try in ZModeler to try and shrink the whole thing (width-wise), nothing works. For example, I tried Extrude, but it does exactly the same thing as QMesh in that regard. The other thing that the person does in the tutorial is use QMesh with Flat Border to grab the top of the cylinder and stretch it in length, but it keeps it as a single poly in that dimension, and in my case, it splits it into the original one, and the new added one for the whole streched length. After trying different things I learned that I can stretch the original cylinder with Move and Flat Border without splitting it into two separate parts, but I’m still wondering why that person used QMesh and did that, but it doesn’t work like that for me. I’ll add two screenshots below showing what I mean.
I would greatly appreciate anyone that might help me out here and explain as to why that is happening to me, or if perhaps I’m missing out on some unseen settings, or is it possible that that’s a bug? It’s just very frustrating when I’m trying to follow that tutorial and doing the same thing does something completely different for me. I’ve been at it for two days now, and I couldn’t find a solution to it myself, so I decided to turn to the forums and hope anyone might lend some assistance.
