Trouble with squished texture

I created a cylinder and modeled it out as part of a tentacle model, I spent quite a while texturing it (polypainting) but now when I use the col > tex all I get is a mostly blank texture with a bar of color at the top, like its seeing mostly gray and then mashes my texturing into the top.

I already did another part of the project and the texture came out fine, I don’t think I did anything different.

This is for something in a game I am working on and the texture jsut does not apply though, the other part of the model I mentioned earlier does fine.

What am I doing wrong and is there any way to fix this ?

Thanks for any suggestions I have put a lot of time on this project and this is one of the small steps.

At level 1, assign a blank texture that’s the size you’ll want to export. Then press Tool>Texture>GUVTiles. This will remap your model to make best use of the available texture space. Of course you’ll need to export the OBJ as well as the texture.
