Trouble with Layers

I had a nasty issue with Layers today.

At level 6, I created a new layer and did some work on it. When I was done, I turned off record mode and checked to make sure everything was working as expected (intensity slide doing its thing, on/off switch working ok…)

I turned off the layer and switched to level 5, and my layer effect was visible in level 5, even though it was turned off. I switched it on, the effect came in at 100%, and when I turned it off, the effect was diminished but still clear.

So I smoothed out all of the affected areas. Then I turned the layer back on, which brought the effect back in, again as expected.

Now here’s the weird part. I then turned the layer back off, and the effect was projected again back onto my model! I just smoothed all that crap out and it came back after disabling the layer?

What’s going on here? Layers were pretty solid in ZB 3.5 and every since ZB4 I haven’t been able to use them worth a flip. I’m sure there’s some education lacking on my part, but why are they so hard to use now?

No ideas anyone?

I have asked some other ZB users and apprently they don’t use Layers anymore either, precisely because of these problems. Is this feature dead in ZB now? Was it not tested during the v4 r2 beta?

Results of using layers are unpredictable at best. This is unusable feature.

Frustrated…

Any updates on this ? We are having the same trouble and it doesn’t seem to have a resolve, or workaround.
Layers are hugely powerful but with bugs like this they have to be avoided.
Any help would be much appreciated
