Trouble with Adaptive skin.

hi
i’ve created a model of head, but it has no thickness. I need thickness for
making stl. file. I created a topology with “Projection” on and “Skin Thickness”
= 1, it caused trouble. My model deformed a lot, screenshots below.

(if i turn off “Projection” then i will recieve a good skin with thickness, but there will be no details…) :frowning:

Try using the thickness slider and the Extract button in the SubTool pallet instead.

If you have 3ds Max, another option is to decimate the high res sculpt, bring it in to Max, and apply a shell modifier to it.

shell in 3d max works very bad…

Extract… hmmm. thx. i’ ll try

try this.

  1. make your good skin that has the detail but is not thick
  2. store a morph target on it
  3. use transpose to pull forward a bit, or use deformation : inflate or size
  4. morph target : create difference

you should now have a new tool in the tool menu which looks the same but has thickness.

you can also just hide everything cept the eye area off your original model, hit make polymesh and do steps 2-4, no retopology involved.
