trouble decimating or zremeshing

hey guys,

am still grasping this stuff. seems like i always run into this problem. let me give my quick usual workflow.

  1. zsphere, polymesh 3d it.

  2. start sculpting base shapes, dynmesh and increase res as needed.

  3. Watch the Active Points count not to exceed 2-3million.

  4. Duplicate tool and drop subdivision down to about 800k total points and try to zremesh

  5. Use UV master to generate UV’s from the lower res duplicated tool and paste on both ??

  6. project details from high res to lower res geo

where i normally get stuck or crashing is step (4). where am now with this alien spider web effort.

can’t uv lower res clone or zremesh without a crash. am suspecting the Total Points is too high ?? that number is a bit confusing to me as i always watch the Active Points.

What am i doing wrong and how should i fix my work flow to avoid such issues ? zremeshed and got the tool down to 80k points. when ever i try use uv master with a clone it crashes.

Any help greatly appreciated.

What exactly are you doing at step 4?
Because when you come from dynamesh you haven’t any subdiv levels.

I can imagine, that such a scattered shape needs long time, because it’s not a coherent piece. sometimes you only need to wait, despite that warning message.
But I guess:
Did you Fix mesh integrity?
Are there straying small elements? maybe invalid geometry? I imagine that this is the main problem…
in that case you have to select everything you want to keep and which has a good visible minimum size and delete the rest, where is lot stuff that is too tiny.

there are many options how to blur/project with dynamesh and zremesh… it’s trial & error

  1. you haven’t to paste the UV’s anywhere, because that lowres with UV becomes your new highres
