Tripod

spider1.jpg

Hi Everyone,

This is a model of a Tripod or much rather I prefer to call it triped, kind of oversized spider with fangs all over its mouth. I have modeled this totally in Zbrush and the current version is counting near 3 million polys. This is just a quick render to test proportions and is still missing eyes and texture, which I am working on at the moment.

I would like to receive your comments and suggestions.

Thanks

Fabian

Really hard to make the image out against the busy background to be honest…

Hi Buckie,

Thanks for your concern. I would not if these images give a better interpretation. I have also included my sketch. Thanks

The sketch is nice, the mesh looks cool. But the material and the composition do not do much for me. It’s not ‘readable’. Can’t make it out. Without the scetch or the mesh I would not know what you are presenting. Try for more contrast. And show more of your model!. I am puzzled by the 3Mio poly’s. I seriously doubt you need more than a few thousand or even a few hundred for that level of detail. Unless you add tonns of scales etc. you simply have to set the smooth value in the tools->Display tab higher and the smooth display will be rendered but is not making your model ‘heavy’.
Looking forward for more work on that!

Thanks Lemo,

In fact the material is just thrown there for a quick render over a background. The model here counts 900,000 polys. The High Poly Count is coming up as I am adding in alot of details, such as muscle mass, a weird scaly skin, eyes etc. You know the sort of projection master addiction.

I will be posting more images of the Hi-Poly model.

I would like to see you nail the model structure to that of the sketch. Then go forward.

Hi Everyone,

This is the WIP Texture being carried out at the moment. I would like to here your views as to how it is coming up. The texture has veins under-lying the outer skin.

Any ideas for the eyes.

Thanks Fabian

spider-WIP-perspective.jpg Hi Everyone,

I am attaching better renders of the Tripod I have created so far. I would like to recieve some feed back as to any ideas for the eyes.

Thanks

what i miss is the feel for the underlying muscles and bones. or something other that shows how he is moving

i think you need to think about how this creature is constructed
how is his anatomy ?
how does he move?

or is he more like a plant that grows out of the ground …
if you develop a little story around him its far more easy to make him a believable creature.

nevertheless the sketch ( and what you’ve got so far) is a really good starting point keep going…

edit:
just read that this is some kind of spider-creature…
search for some reference photos ( its always most important to have good references)
think about things like joints, or his chitin shell(carapace) , or does he have bones and muscles …
and try to show those things

i like this idea.

at first i thought you were going in a mechanical direction like the thing they stuck in neo in ‘matrix’ 1. then after you put the new texture i was thinking something in the same family/species of the bug in ‘alien’ that attaches to your face. both of these creatures are pretty cool and terrifying.

maybe you should refine this idea more to give it more terrifying elements. more detail on the teeth and head in general and for the tentacles also (mucous slime is good too). if this creature is an invertebrae than i think you’re on the right track…but, if this is a vertabrae then i think there should be more tissue and skeletal mass to define these areas more. as far as the eyes…bug references seem to be a good idea for this one.

sorry about the $%*@ picture …did a quick search on google image.

That is one creepy little beastie. Great job.

Hi Guys,

A big thanks to all those of you who have replied to my posts concering the creature that I am currently working on. The idea of this creature is that it is cybernatically created. So I am having some tweaking to do to achieve a more realistic result.

I have stripped the texture down and I am re applying a higher texture from scratch. I will shortly be applying the eyes and I have attached a texture which I have made which will be used for the eyes.

 Feel free to use the texture as you like or added it to your library. The texture is seamless and can be edited in photoshop without any bother what so ever.

Thanks for the interest.

love the design of the tripod - and thanks for the texture.

lol your right about projection master it does become a bit of an addiction!!.

i like your tripod design. Looks like a close relative of the sentinel from the matrix. good going:+1:
