Tri2Quad Feature-How does it work?

Hi All,

I want to import a mesh that is all Triangles and convert it to Quads.

Will the “Tri2Quad” do this? And I noticed a slider…how does that work?

Hope to hear back from someone soon,

Adam

…I`ve never even think about it.
Does ZBrush even have this?

yes its there
I would type out exactly what it does but its one of the buttons in Zbrush thats well labeled.
Click alt on the PC and place mouse over button
Command on MAC

if you want to see how it works take the demohead and export it as a tri mesh (its in the export options) then switch to another polymesh and import it with the slider set to like 16.

warning (it kils topolgy on the model)

I’ve converted triangles to quads using 2 methods:

  1. Retopology using Zspheres. Even if you create triangle patches the zsphere adaptive skin will convert them to quads.

Of course you may not want to rebuild your entire mesh (because you’ve already built it previously) so there is the other option, however it’s outside zbrush:

2)In Blender, the function quad mesh exists and it converts triangles to quads, but you may check them out to see if the new topology fits your needs, sometimes the quads are created from two triangles you want/need to be separated.

Anyway Zbrush is robust enough to handle trias or quads. You don’t have to worry unles you’ve created a bad topology from the beggining, in that case you may have pinched areas, but again, Zbrush is robust enough to smooth them.
