TreManor's sketchbook and progress file

I am a miniatures sculptor. I am not entirely new to digital modeling having put it down in 2005 to take up sculpting minis. I have recently rekindled an interest in digital modeling for both miniatures production and video games. I plan to place pictures of my progress here in this thread. Any and all feedback is welcome. My feelings are not fragile.

This first image is pretty much the frist thing I think is worth showing. Still a LONG way from being done but I am on the way. the process still takes much longer than i would like and the result does not quite feel like it was the intention.

so anyway…

Hi Tre,
Glad to see you on here, I’ll be following your progress keep the updates coming.
If you want to show your work without the Ui showing you can click document then export (the button immediately above to the right of the one you clicked) and it will just show the canvas and sculpt that you are working on.
As far as the sculpt goes I can see your style there straight away, easily recognisable. I like the way you’ve broke the figure down into the different limbs/torso etc, is that so you will find it easier to pose later on? The head for me is a little small but I know that’s in keeping with your style traditionally and is more anatomically correct than the bobble heads that some figures have in 28mm. Have you got multiple division levels on the sculpt? you may find it easier if you do as you can step up and down through them easily which will help when making large changes to the mesh if you need to.

Hey Ian! Great to " see " you here man! How does it?

Thanks for the encouragement. I am still plugging away at it. I kind of feel like I am holding myself back though. I am trying to change my style a bit and make my figures a bit more toon like…not wacky proportions kind of toony, but more subtlety and smoothness in the forms. More gesture and silhouette.

Mo’ stuff…

I decided it might be a good idea to try using a more " realistic " style so I went back in and bumped up the details a little as an experiment so here is that.

Tre,
Looking good, I think the torso in particular is working. For me it’s the legs that are off, the right leg in particular. The vastus medialis seems to be sitting more above the knee instead of more to the side, could also do with being longer and thinner towards the origin. I think if you moved the knee outwards a bit more it would look better too. Just my initial thoughts,I’m sure there are more knowledgeable people here who will hopefully join and and give you some useful critique.
