Transpose tool misbehaving (FIXED!)

Sometimes, for reasons that totally escape me, I find the transpose
tool rips my mesh apart when I try to move the mesh with it.
It’s very annoying when I have a subtool trying to align it to a base mesh and the tyhing keeps tearing apart no matter what I do with the trnspoe tool.
This does not always happen , however. DOes anyone knoiw why?

It would help if you showed an image of what’s happening. But it may be the scale of the model. Look at the model in the Tool>Preview window. If it is way too big for the window, use the Size deformation to shrink the model down. If it’s way small in the window, use Size to enlarge it. Then use TransPose.

without a picture it is hard to say, but perhaps its because you have symmetry turned on? sometimes if you try to use transpose when not lined up to an axis it will tear your model in opposite directions.

ok thnx for that. I thought also it might be symmetry prob but that was not the case. Will trying resizing.

I think I may be having a similar problem. Many times while using the Transpose tool my mesh will be torn apart - part of the mesh moves as expected but the rest is left behind. This can happen with or without masks, in subtools, polygroups, etc.

Pictures attached to demonstrate. This particular mesh was created with a ztool primitive then converted to Polymesh3D. No masks, subtools or polygroups in this example.

Changing the transpose action line will change the point at which the mesh is torn apart. Some experimentation and multiple tries at an action line can usually create a normal transpose, but I cannot see a direct correlation between the action line and the defect.

Thanks Aurik! I did see your post, but it did not seem to apply at first. The preview of my mesh fills that little window no matter the scale. Now I realize you were referring to a different window - part of the tool palette, not the tool preview image.

After further experimentation it does appear the scale of the object was the problem. Scaling the object smaller with the Deformation palette did the trick. :+1:
