Transparent mode working differently in 3.5?

I want to fit some clothing around a human shape using subtools.
In ZB3.1 I always used the transparent mode to check where the clothing was too wide. Now in 3.5 only the inactive tool is transparent, i.e. the figure. I need the clothing to be transparent, i.e. the active tool, so I can see the figure underneath. Any way to do that?

same question. Old transparency was more useful with multiple sub-tools

I’ll third that question. At present the image planes are un-useable :frowning:

I think if you want the old-style transparency, you should go to Preferences -> Draw -> Ghost Clear Transparency and turn it off. It won’t seem to do anything at first, but switch subtools back and forth and you should have old-style transparency. Save the config to save the state. Also, I think those sliders near it can let you adjust the transparency of subtools, but I haven’t fiddled with all that much.

thanks a lot Kerwin! Maybe you also know how to bring back old startup screen with recent files list?

Haven’t figured that one out yet.

No, doesn’t work. I’ve tried the sliders, too, but the active subtool always remains solid.
This makes ZB 3.5 totally useless for me. A shame, because it does have some interesting new features.

The third slider down from “Ghost Clear Transparency” is labeled “back opacity”.

With Ghost Clear Transparency ON, turn this slide up to around 4 or 5. This will make objects BEHIND the current subtool appear ghostly on the screen so you can see them while you sculpt. This might work the sculpting clothes example. It’s going to be a little confusing when you rotate as the ghost of the non-selected tool will appear in your field of view.

This will you see objects inside and behind the current tool you’re sculpting on, allowing you to fit clothes to a manikin.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn’t help. The opaque clothing covers the figure so I can’t see where I have to nudge it closer. It’s like trying to trace on a non-transparent sheet.
Just pushing polys on trial-and-error is too time-consuming. I’ll go back to ZB 3.1 for now.

According to support, making the active subtool transparent “is not an option for 3.5” (quote) but they are passing on the issue to the development team. If you want transparency to work for the active subtool (actually, why not let the user choose which one to make transparent?!) I suggest you open a ticket, too, so they see there are more users who need that feature.
