Transparency function not working.

I have an issue that has been giving me trouble. When I have my subtool selected and am in draw mode, when I press the transparency button nothing happens. The only thing that occurs is a slight color shift in the background plane. When I hit the “X” key as a keyboard shortcut, nothing happens as well.

Is there a step I am missing somewhere? I expected to be able to toggle transparency off and on with a simple click but it just doesn’t work.

I’ve thrown up a little quicktime movie. Sorry that it isn’t the best quality, but it should still illustrate the problem.

I have tried initializing the application and when that didn’t work I reinstalled 3.12 and then the 3.12b upgrade after that. The problem still persists. One additional note. Whenever I append a subtool, it selects a different subtool layer after I’ve appended. It does not stay selected on the subtool that I’ve added. Is that normal? As an example. Say I have my image planes set up and then append a zsphere to start sculpting. As soon as I append the Zsphere my subtool selection jumps to one of the image planes. I would have thought it would stay selected on the zsphere that has been appended. It seems like there are some issues with 3.12b in the way it’s recognizing assignments to subtool layers. I’m only guessing this since it seems like it can’t tell which subtool layer to apply transparency to.

Any input is most welcome as I am currently enrolled in an online class for advanced ZSphere training and these basic functions are not working properly. I’m optimistic that it’s not something I’m doing wrong, but if it is, I welcome any input.

Thank you.

from the looks of it your Transparency is working backwards…making the inactive tools transparent.

to get around this you can move the image plane you have in front of the object

you can also mess with the settings in

preferences>draw

Hope this helps some

I have the same problem. With a polysphere over the reference planes with the polysphere selected, the transparency button makes the reference planes transparent not the sphere, thus serving no useful function. Now, is this a bug or a settings problem? I am looking in Preferences->Draw but I do not see what relates to subtool/transparency setting.

Same prop , this sucks

The solution ghost offers does work for now. It’s a bit of a pain in the ass, but it’s better than nothing.

Thanks, Ghost!

This bug really needs to be fixed. In my view, this is a critical feature one of which should not be ignored or be resolved by simply saying that there is a work around like placing the reference plane in front of the tool. I am not rich man and the price of this product alone demands that Pixologic should regard this as a high priority item. I have opened a bug on this problem. Lets hope this gets traction.

if you are using the xplane, the sphere has to be apended from the subtools menue, select it first, make it 3d then the xplane, you will have to devide the xplane a few times to get your texture(reference picture) to be clear, then paint it on the plane, texture>colorize> click the txr>Col button. also, i dont know if it makes any difference but i renamed the sphere
this is the only way that i have made it work,
good luck,
