Transfering lower layers to higher sub D layers, fastest way?

I started adding layers as I sculpted a peice im working on now. The layers where not ultra high res details and I was not 100% shure how many times I was to sub d this model.

Anyways, I have now added 2 more sub D levels, but now cant add a layer at the highest level. Now I understand that if a layer gets added at the highest level all levels under than will also be kept in that currently selleted layer.

This is the problem, Because I can only add a layer 2 sub D levels from highest, any details I sculpt does not get captured in a layer. How can I push my layers to a highest sub d level level?

Thanks. Danny.

just turn those layers on.

or are you saying you want to keep them as layers, but move them up 2 subD levels?

if so…its a bit tricky.

Anyway.

Turn off all layers, go the the highest subD and store a MT as well as export out an obj of the object.

Next, go back down and turn on layer 1.
step up to the highest again, and export out an obj.

back down again, turn off layer 1 and turn on layer 2
step up again, export out an obj

Alright, go back down, and turn off ALL layers

now. store an MT again (if you didn’t before)
create a new layer, and have it on.
Import the obj that you exported of the highest level with layer 1 on
that will get you your layer…now on the highest level
turn that layer off.
create a new layer again, and import the layer 2 obj.

that should get you your two layers on the highest SubD level.

Hope that helps

Thanks I just tryed it and ZB gave memory error on import, the mesh is just over 6mil.

hmmm…reboot, try again.

or

um, buy more ram.

Other than those, I’ve got nothing.
