Transfering detail to a similar model.

I’m not quite sure how to approach this issue i ran into. I created a character in zbrush which I retopoed and took into blender at the lowest level. I redid the UV’s there so that they were animation friendly (Not wild about GUV’s for animation) and created a hair mesh for the character there, which is a seperate object. However when I try to reimport the new uv’ model back into zbrush it won’t allow me to replace the orginal lowest level. It says the points are not the same. Is there a way of taking the highest level details from the original sculpt and projecting them unto the remimported mesh? I attempted to do this with zproject and turning the original sculpt into pixols. This did not work though when I tried to transfer it to the new mesh.

Also when I reimported the mesh my x symmetry is way off. Not sure how to fix that.

The problem is that you added the hair. That by definition changed the point order. Export two models from your other app. One with the hair, and one without. Import the one without back into level 1 of your model. Assuming that your point order hasn’t been changed by what you’ve done in your other app (including the import/export settings) you’ll be able to move up and down subdivision levels and all that other stuff.

Next, go to level 1 and save the model. Clone it. With the clone, delete the higher subdivision levels and then import your version with the hair. It will share the original model’s scaling, so the hair should fit correctly. Now delete everything except the hair.

Switch back to the original model and append the hair on as a new subtool.

You’ll be good to go.

The hair and object were exported as seperate objects. So the polycounts remained the same. However when I try to create a hair tool, and than append a body (with new uvs and all details) into the subtool, the feet pop through the head and the feet become flat floating way above the head.

Is there a way to transfer the hi frequency detail to the model if the points have changed and you can’t replace the first level subdivision level?
