Transfer details from one mesh to another!

Hey,

i solved some issues with my topology…first…after reimport into ZBrush there is no dialog “Transfer High-Resolution Details…”…i think this message does not appera because i make many changes in anoter 3D-App! Maybe too much! So i made the changes on the topology and import it directly into ZBrush. With the function “Project All” i transfered all the details from the original model to the new one. And here is the little problem…on the fingernails there are some artifacts…it seems that the “Project All” - Function does not work exactly enough…so what is the best way to transfer all Modeling/Scultping details from one Mesh to another?

Thank you and have a nice day!

Sometimes you’ll have issues in areas where the projection distance is too far away from where it’s suppose to be or too close to a different area causing it to project some details into areas it shouldn’t.

The best way I’ve found is to adjust your model before using project all. I’ll use the standard and move brushes to adjust areas on the model to be closer to where the projected details are coming from. You can see where it should be by turning on the eye icon on the subtool and using ghost & transparency as you see fit. Adjust the major areas where you’re having problems. You can also do a project all and check all over the model to see where the problem areas are and undo the projection and readjust the model to match in those problem areas.

I hope that makes sense.

Normally its the other way around. If you don’t change the topology and vertex order externally, then when you reimport the OBJ into zbrush it will just automatically update the mesh without any warning message. It’s a pretty smooth process that way.

You could try saving a morph target before projecting the detail. Then you can paint back any projection errors.

Hi,

Thanks for the comments.
I tried to export with GOZ but i have to change the topology and not just the vertex-order.
So ZBrush is not asking me to transfer all the details to the new mesh. This is not working.
So i tried to use the Morph-Brush, but i thought it is not possible to transfer details with the Morph-Brush from one Geometry to a completely another one? If its possible, it would be awesome to tell me how does it work!

I found the zproject brush to be useful for sorting out problem areas. Make sure you are looking directly over the area though or else it may pull polys from the side.
Also, try dropping the division level and project all from there too , this helps pull the mesh into the right shape. By working up through the levels, projecting each time and using the zproject brush where needed you’ll end up with a near perfect result.

Hey guys,

thanks for the comments.
The Morph-Brush and the ZProject-Brush are not working. Maybe someone can tell me more about these two brushes and the functionality. The best result for now is the way with “Project all” in combination with some tweaks on the target and the source mesh. It would be very interesting to see how the morph-brush and the ZProject-Brush are working!

I will check this out and post my results as soon as possible!

Thank you again!

did u manage to sort out the project brush not working??
