tracks brush: how to control the spacing of the alpha from one another in a stroke

I’m using a tracks brush with a square alpha. So far i can only brush the alpha across the surface with its spacing to be just about a tad bit from touching each other. I’m trying to figure out how i can control the spacing so that the alpha is wider from each other when it tiles across the surface, just like how you can adjust the spacing of the brush in photoshop. I have checked under the brush settings in all areas, but i have found none. So far the only way is through projection master using the decobrush, however that brush messes up big time in 4.0 and doesnt work correctly like it did in 3.0, and i don’t know why.

I believe what you’re looking for is controlled by going to Stroke and turning on Roll. Then adjust the vertical distance of the alpha with the RollDistance field. The alpha is vertically read, in other words, it’s not side to side…but from top to bottom. I hope this helps. -kb

I did try that out and it doesn’t give me the right effect i want. What it does is it stretches the alpha’s length either more compressed and shorter(lesser value than 1) or longer and more elongated(values higher than one) rather than simply adjust the spacing in between each alpha along a stroke.

If there could be another way of adjusting the spacing, pls tell or i’d probably have to create my own custom alpha and drag rect stamp it numerous times across the surface to get the right spacing i want. Which would work but would be more tedious and probably not as efficient and perfect.

Using your 2d app, paste the alpha you want to use on an elongated background. ZBrush 4 supports non-square alpha’s. The elongation has to be vertically like the sample below. Then just use the Roll function in the Stroke menu with a setting of 1 for Roll Dist.

thanks very much, didn’t know it recognizes non-square proportions, always thought the alpha would automatically stretch no matter what to a square frame.
