Topology lines visibility

This is probably a common issue and a resolved one at that, but I can’t seem to find a solution for it.

I am trying to retopologize a mesh but I want to use most of the existing topology. So I duplicate my mesh and keep the first model at it’s highest division level and I lower the other model to the lowest level. I then go through the steps to retopologize, selecting my high res model as the model I will actually be retopologizing, and selecting the low res mesh as a topology “guide” to work from (using the “Select Topo” button).

The problem is that when I select the low res mesh to do this, its topology lines display underneath the skin of the high res mesh, so that not only cannot I not see thm, but I cannot select and modify them either. There are only couple points where the low res mesh protrudes out from underneath of the high res mesh, making it editable, but the rest are inaccessable. Is there anyway to get around this problem so that I can actually make use of the underlying low res mesh?

Thanks a lot

cause are hidden!
probably you solved the problem. (your post it’s two days long)

just in case

Ctrl-Shift-LMB click to unhide in the same way it’s done when sculpting.
And it’s good to unmask everything, it solves the problem when you can’t move the topo-vertices or when the topolines seperate!

Unhide and Unmask and goodluck!

Topology tool is one of the most important tool for me but needs attention to specific problems, when you know these you know how to fix them or workaround them!

and for you and for everyone else that has a question about the topology tool, search the topology and flow lab thread that started by Plakkie,

the thread is a little bit chaotic to be a reference but has everyrthing you may encounter.

yiannis, HA…that’s all there was too it. That’s a weird bug that the topology is masked randomly throughout by default.

I had actually read through that topology and Flow Lab forum and was aware of masking as an issue for not being able to move the points, but didn’t think it was an issue for my case of seeing them. Now i know!

Thanks again.

sory about my english may be not enougf to explane how you can manage to take the topology lines back. but ı will try

go to the topology menu whıch ıs placed under the tool menu, clıck the edit topolyg button. and clıck ıt again. now you will see the topology lines and even you can control like the first time you did.

ı wısh thıs knowledgement wıll solve your problem.
