Topology Issue

I’m working on a concept following the eat3D Hard Surface 2 Modeling Tutorial

I get everything with the concepting using the duplicated model but when it comes to RETOPOLOGY I run into some problems.

  1. I append a ZSphere - click on RIGGING - select my conceptmesh I just made and then EDIT TOPOLOGY

I then did the first piece with no problem - I made the part and appended it as a subtool.

  1. Now I want to start with the next part - but then I’m unable to RETOPOLOGY - it always tells me that I can’t use a mesh over 15.000 polys or points. But the concept mesh can never be less than 15.000 - I got around 1million polys as my concept mesh

I hope you understand what I mean and hope someone can help me since I’m now stucked and can’t continue following the tutorial as described…

thanks

Usually, you get that warning if you try to select your mesh in Topology with ‘Select Topo’. Instead, go to Rigging and click ‘Select Mesh’.

If you are Appending a ZSphere to a subtool, select the ZSphere in the subtool list then go to Topology and click ‘Edit Topology’.

Thanks for the quick reply but you need to hit" EDIT TOPOLOGY" after you “SELECT” the “MESH” in “RIGGING”.
But when I do only hit the EDIT TOPOLOGY I can’t draw points on the surface it just does nothing.

strange - maybe its a bug - I wish topology in ZB wouldn’t be always such a pain…

You do it that way only if the ZSphere is the only thing in the Subtool list.

I think it’s definetily a bug.
If I load Zbrush and follow the usual steps - it works fine (if I’m fast enough)
When I hit EDIT TOPOLOGY and zoom in and move around then I might be able to start topologize - or it just doesnt react at all.

So my steps are right - but also if you click in empty space first - you can’t edit topology - no matter what you do - you have to fully close ZBRUSH and start all over again.

that sucks big time!

EDIT: after a few clicks I also loose symmetry function…i’ll upload a video in a minute…

Okay - me again.
I’m fighting with this problem here for over a week now. Tried to check any single tutorial about it and I still don’t know what I do wrong here - or if it is a bug at the end.

Here’s a sample and a video of how I do it:

Setting: 2 Subtools
1 Subtool - Basic Head for reference
1 Concept - a simple Sphere with some sculpting as the concept layout

Now I append a ZSphere -> Move the ZSpher into the Concept Mesh - which I also cloned to be able to select it as the MESH under RIGGING

Then I go to RIGGING -> select the Concept Mesh

After that I go to TOPOLOGY and hit EDIT TOPOLOGY

Now I should be able to draw points/polygons onto the concept mesh - but nothing happens - I can’t add any points at all.

Any help here would be highly appreciated

Here’s the video - to follow my steps:

Okay, after I watched my own video - I saw that I was in MOVE mode - ofcourse then I can’t draw new topology - but I got the same problem when it was on DRAW mode …at least I’m thinking

However - I will try again and see if I can solve this issue… maybe the issue IS sitting infront of the screen…

UNBELIEVABLE! - now it’s working - me idiot was only in MOVE mode all the time - problem solved… for now
