Topology Clarification

I am new to z brush and I have a few questions about retopology.

To start off I have modeled a character to the point where I am happy with the level of detail but it is an incredibly high poly count and for Ideal poly flow I want to retopologize.

I saw a few tutorials and read some things in the forums about how to do it so I managed to retopologize my character by…

  1. Choosing a z shpere
  2. Going to rigging and selecting my high poly model
  3. Retopologized the model to my liking.

Here is where I am stuck. I would like to know how to take my new base cage or retopologized model I just did and project the high rez work I sculpted using my new poly flow?

The two big questions I have are

  1. When and how do you use the Topology>Select Topology button and would I select my new low res cage or my high res model? what does it do?

  2. What is make adaptive skin and when is that used?

  3. Project? I assume this should be turned on?

Basically I have my retop mesh and my high res mesh ready to go. I dont know how to keep all my work using my new topology. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

there is more information on pixologics website under oniline docs just run a search there for topology.

if you still have the zsphere tool with edit topo turned on and projection turned on and the subDs cranked up. then when you preview the mesh it will project the details. then save the highres projection out as your mesh and then use the rebuild subdivision tool to get back to your low res mesh assuming you dont have triangles.

If not take your high res tool and append your low res tool .

make sure the low poly is subdivided for enough detail.

then in the tools menu under the geometry sub pallet hit project all.

this works most of the time, certain things can make it mess up though. so the best solution is make sure you do this during zsphere phase

adaptive skin is used for zsphere meshes
