Topology brush issues

Hello all,

i have been sculpting away using dynamesh as a sketching tool. Tried using qremesher but eventualy had to settle for the topology brush to get the right look.

My issue with the topology brush is that it can be extremely difficult to snap my point to another existing point. Most of the time it snaps just next to it along the curve. Very frustrating when i retry over ten times to finally get it to snap. I tried setting the brush size as well as snap distance in the stroke palette. Is there a way to make topology brush snap to points better rather than curves?

Also when using the topology brush its very slow in creating points. For example on a low poly mesh i draw a curve and it can take 3 seconds to do the calculations. Any idea why this is happening? I have a fast computer with loads of ram.

any help is much appreciated.

Cheers,

y

It sounds like you need more control for your topo. I would recommend using zspheres to retopo rather than the topo brush. I only really use the topo brush for quick topology pieces, never for a complete object or anything that needs precision. Granted, I also don’t use Zbrush’s topology tools for that, I use Coat personally, but Topogun is also a great tool and topogun is only $100 or something like that.

Not sure why you’re getting slowdown.

Thank you for helping me with this issue. I am considering Topogun/Coat at the moment. But ended up doing it all with topology brush. As you said it’s probably not the ideal solution but I was so close to finishing it off. It’s a good idea that requires some improvements as the linking of points can be quite tedious.
