Toplogical masking behaving different

Hi guys, is there a way in r2 to subtract a topological masking to a preexisting one? in 4.0 you could draw the topo mask, then drawing another one and clicking shift would subtract to that. right now the behaviour changed, in fact as you can see from the pic it will toggle the mask (masking what is unmasked and viceversa). the workaround is to invert the mask, making the same procedure but pressing alt after starting creating the mask (so it will add to the one already there) and then invert again. but am i missing something, ie there is a way to avoid those extra steps? (in this way it is way less intuitive)
