Tools and Multiple Monitors

I use 3 monitors when I work and I would like to use one of my monitors to house all the tools, while I use the main monitor to do all the work, like I do in Photoshop. I understand ZBrush is a single view system, but I’m just talking about the tools pallets, not multiple views. Is there any way to accomplish this?

The whole ZBrush 3.1/3.2 interface is displayed in one window and more windows cannot be created. However, you can stretch the entire zbrush window so that the left or right container (where the palettes go when undocked) is on the second monitor (or maybe in your case, the third). Unmaximizing the ZBrush window and adjusting the window size across your monitors should do the trick. Simply close and restart ZBrush to register this new window position and size.

But you should also remember that the size of the Document, where your model is displayed, has an impact on performance. That is to say a large document with your model at full size might be slower to work with than a smaller document with your model at full size.

I’ve tried that, but I am limited to a static width. I’d like to array the tools across the entire monitor, not simply move the container just off screen.

Also, I can’t seem to keep the layout. When I restart the program it’s back to the default layout.

As for performance, I understand the larger the document, the more resources. I’m hoping the next version of ZBrush can use more than 4GB of RAM.

This is one of the items I saw repeated a few times in the zbrush 4 wishlist, so who knows maybe we’ll get it
