Tool Suddenly Refuses to Open

I’ve been working on a sculpt for a few days now, and was REALLY close to finishing. However, zBrush abruptly crashed, and is now refusing to open the file. I’m really worried it’s a corrupted file, and don’t know enough about zBrush to know how to recover the file.

Any suggestions?

it’s called saving in stages. If the file is corrupted, then it is lost. If you have been saving incrementally then go back a stage and re do what you lost.

also never use tool>save as.

always use subtool master to save. Always save with no hidden geo. Always save without a mask on. And always save at the lowest subD.

So the answer is, if you’re working on something with hidden geometry, masked geometry, or high subdivision levels and zBrush crashes, that file could just suddenly be inaccessible?

I understand the common sense of incremental saves, so that part is my own fault… but I had no idea zBrush was this fickle.

Lastly, I have no idea what “subtool master” is referring to… are you really saying that the program defined method of saving is NOT the correct way to save?

As I said, I’m relatively fresh to zBrush, so all of this is new to me.

yes, I am saying the program way to save is wrong.

subtool master is a plugin that pixologic released. you can find it on their site.
