Tool loads behind canvas and in other tools?

Hi people,

Im not sure what i did but for some reason my tool only loads behind or beneath the canvas. I find if I load a different tool first and then the tool im working on after, i can see it and move it around inside.
I’ve tried keeping it in draw mode, going to move tool, and then click and dragging outside of the manipulator but that doesnt seem to work.
Does anyone know what goin on?

I;ve included my tool if anyone wants to take a looksee, its a 20meg file though

Depends on quite a few things. How about just showing us some screen grabs? Sounds like you made a plane, dropped it and grabbed another tool. Then when you draw it is default drawing the tool based on either Zbrush default or import geometry default. A quick run through the Practical Guide (educational section Zbrush site) and the built in help will make your life a lot easier.

Hi thanks for replying.

I think its something wrong with the tool not zbrush because all other tools don’t seem to be affected. I’ve gone through the practical guide, a few other tutorials and a couple intro vids and havent found anything other than going to draw mode>move tool>click drag outside manip: which doesnt work.
Someone suggested using the POLYMESH 3D command; which works EXCEPT for the face that it gets rid of all my subdivisions with the details ive been sculpting.
Here’s an alt download because i didnt realize rapidshare is only 1 dl at a time

Here’s my problem illustrated with screengrabs.

1: blank canvas, tool has been drawn, this is what I get. Tool is drawn underneath canvas.

2: drew another tool first, then drew MY tool overtop. It appears inside the first tool.

3: attempting to bring it forward like stated in tutorials and guides by going into move tool and click+dragging outside the manipulator

4: edit mode

5:clearing background by hitting ctrl n in edit mode… everything disappears. The tool is still there, but its under the canvas… back to square one.

Ahahah, I sse part of the issue, you are drawing the second tool and it is appearing inside the plane or the plane is acting like a 3d mask!!! Thus when you wipe the background, the mask disappears hiding your second object.

Try drawing the plane at upper left then get out of edit mode, grab your new object/character and draw lower right and see if this solves things???

PROBLEM SOLVED AND CRISIS AVERTED (thanks to edonkey!)

I kinda feel like an idiot though, the problem was I didnt have MRGB selected when drawing the tool. I’m not sure what the explanation is though, I guess if you dont have it selected then your tool acts as a sort of sub-mask?

Mrgb tells ZBrush to draw the object using material and color. If that is turned off, then no new pixols can be drawn on the canvas; your tool can only be used to affect pixols that already exist. With the particular settings that you had (only Zadd being active), the effect was that you were changing the depth of the plane’s pixols without changing their color or material.

A word of advice: If you encounter any situation where things are drawing in a way that you do not expect, check the Draw palette first. That palette tells ZBrush exactly what to do when drawing on the canvas.
