Titan

Hi Everyone. This is my second real Zbrush Project, Thought i’d be more ambitious this time.

Started with ZSpheres, made an adaptive skin, kinda learning as I go. Any hints, tips, advise would be greatly appriciated. The Model is based off the Scorne Titan figures from Privateer Press.

I have some earlier renders if anyone is interested in seeing them.

Thanks!

I like this mesh…keep going…want to see updates!

Wasn’t pleased with some parts of the model, went back to the zspheres and worked up again.

a little more pleased with it now, deffinately have to break out my anatomy books.

another small update

Titan5b.jpg

That was a pretty good start and the second is a great improvement.

We’ve had a thread running now for a few years that might help you better understand zspheres, see my signature below.

That said, many people just sculpt away now in the latest version of Zbrush and fix the mesh after everything is done. Or various combinations and iterations along the way.

I still find zspheres one the greatest tools every provided for quick, creative interpretations of ideas and concepts while retaining the ability to play.

Check out the thread, it is a long read but has some very useful info and some amazing sculpts people have provided, some models, and some amazing links.

ok ,so I’m working on detailing (I’m bad at updating) and I’ve come across a topology issue. on the lowest resolution there is a section by the tusks that isn’t divided properly

The Red line isn’t there in the mesh and I think it should be.

Is there any way to fix this and keep my higher subdivision levels in ZBrush 2?

New render, upgraded to ZB 3.1 (so nice)

Neck has been bulked up a more work done on his back. gonna work on the arms and legs next

For the problem area you mention, is it the same geometry on both sides???

If your not using the latest ZBrush version, it’s not an issue that is easily overcome, as doing it right initially is crucial, or as close to right as you find acceptable.

If you are, then retopoing when done will resolve all issues, so no worries.

You started from Zspheres, so always before doing any sculpting check your most base geometry for symmetry, some weird things can happen depending on the placement of Zspheres in relation to each other. In the ‘Eternal thread’ we show some of those for ‘Ace Bill Freeless’, my little fella’s hands were seriously messed up left to right until I ‘nudged’ the Zsphere on one side a wee bit. No process is perfect… YET!

Thanks for the reply Jason. I was using Zbrush2 up untill a few days ago when I got VMware up and running on my mac. Now I’m using 3.1 and I plan on re-topologizing this guy when I’m done. Its a learning process, this is only my first real (IE not just messing around) project in ZBrush and I’m loving every minute of it so far.

Did some more detailing on the head, neck and back. I’m pretty pleased with it so far.

as always critiques are welcome

New update, sorry about the lack of progress recently work has been kicking the crap out of me.

Anyway here’s the update.

Titan8.jpg

Gave him some toes and added some detail to his legs, added some stand-in eyes and put a little detail into the tusks.

[angry.jpg]

Gave him some teeth, tweaked the tusks and generally tried to make him look angry

Improving. Overall though he has no weight. Just skin pulled tight over mass, makes him look more like a baby - defenseless. Of course that may be what your shooting for. The major thing I see with the face is that he only has functional lips, no actual jaw, or at least not visibly possible working jaw.

Of course my alien/monster biology is lacking when put up against many of the talented people here.

I see what you’re saying, any sugestions on how to fix it?

oh and just so you know what I’m shooting for Here is some of the reference I’m using (I don’t have that actual miniatures though)

Havn’t even started on the armor either.

  sweet

another one of my horribly infrequent updates.

Titan11.jpg

Not much done on the modeling side, been playing around with texture and materials.

Havn’t really messed with this in a while (been kinda busy) but with the release of the OSX version of Zbrush I’m starting to work on him again. I’ve begun working on his armor in Maya and plan on importing it into ZB to detail. here he is with a burlap sort of skirt that goes under some of the armor.

Also if anyone has ant advice and/or tutorials on how to do a coiled rope it would be much appriciated. I’m sure there is an easy way to do it that I’m missing.
