Tiny holes in my mesh. huh?

Hey there!

I’m here with another question. This time about tiny holes that are appearing in my imported .obj mesh when I apply subdivisions to it in ZBrush. Any idea what’s causing this?

Additionally- when I create a displacement map in ZBrush and apply it to an object in Max it also creates tiny holes.

I’m assuming that these are things that I can avoid through the use of different settings etc…

I just don’t know which ones.

Thanks!

Hi,

This should probably be in the trouble shooting forum and you will probably need to post some pictures of before, after and with mesh so folks can figure out what is up. You should also post your system and OS specs as well.

I’ve had this happen with Wings models.
Make a note of where the holes are appearing and take a really close look at those areas in another modeller. They can certainly happen if you import a model with n-gons, ZBrush will correct the n-gons on import but can leave these odd mesh problems anyway. I would guess that lots of things could cause similar problems, doubled edges, doubled points, severely non-planar polys. These are just guesses though, n-gons are what did it for me.
Like I said, take a good look at your model in another app and make sure it’s a good clean mesh with no serious modelling errors! - Baz

one thing you might want to check out, i imported entirely tri modelled game figure and got the smae problem when I tride to divide it, howver when I turned the smooth button off, the subdivision worked, although i had to work alot harder to get the mesh looking right, and zb really doesn’t like tris so it pinches alot, even on high poly levels.
