tiling alphas?

Does anyone know a way to tile an alpha evenly and seamlessly across an entire model? My model is hard edged and has lots of undercuts. I tried to use the stencil tool but this did not spread the alha evenly across the entire model.

if the alpha can tile in all directions then you can apply tiling to the UV’s and apply the “mask” as an alpha across the entire model, then mask by alpha. and use deformations or sculpting tools to bring out the look you want.

tool>texture>UVtile (lowest SubD)
alpha panel>import>grab tiling alpha
tool>masking>mask by alpha (highest subD…most likely)
tool>deformations>inflate

if there are certain spots on the model that you won’t want to have the tiled alpha mask you’ll need to go in and mask those off as well after you do the mask by alpha.

edit - you have to be at your lowest SubD to apply the alpha, and it is going to apply the alpha per polygon (if you have tri’s this will look funny in certain areas, but you can fix it by hand if you do). Also, if you already had UV’s for your object make sure to clone the object and export it so you can reimport the UV’s if you need.
