thrown pottery rings

How would I get the subtle indentations that form rings around thrown pottery that’s been made on a potter’s wheel, such as in the attachment here? I won’t be using the textures derived from the photo. I want have the rings be modified geometry so reflections show the indentations of the rings.

Plus any other recommendations for making this, please.

Thanks.

I would just use a standard brush with very light z-sub intensity and have the transform set to radial symmetry on the proper axis with a count of 36 or more. I suppose if you needed the rings to be more exactly equidistant from each other you could also use some sort of texture/alpha to make it as well.

OK.

How do I get the polygons to be evenly sized throughout?

And, for the purpose of export to modo, for example, can I get a displacement map of the indentation and other noise I apply for the surface, with a lower poly of the jug (from above) as a target in modo?

You can retopologize in ZBrush or rework the cage in Modo.

You can use GoZ for Modo.
