Hello. I worked on a sculpt yesterday of a bust for a thinker.

I used the clay tubes and rake brush. Also used transpose to pose the model and then poseable symmetry to work with it more in pose.

I created the material using MatCap.

Let me know what you think.

I like it very much. Using clay and rake tools gives the model a very “hand made” look.
I use clay tubes more than standard brush. I sculpted it only with clay tubes.

Good job!

Its a got a nice classic feel to it Ryan. The mouth looks a bit on the small side… angle?

Wayne…

I really like this. His eyes and angle of his head do give off an impression of someone in thought but I have to agree with DarthWayne the mouth seems off compared to the rest of his face, unless he is pursing his lips? I think either wider mouth, more lines to make it look as if he has a question on his mind and trying to get an answer out of his mouth… hmmmm, or pull lips out slightly? Really good bust. Keep up the good work.

Hey, it’s looking good, yes, the mouth is maybe too small. Also a brush with variation in size and shape with no symmetry, can make a better image.
I should like to do some experiments with that rake-brush while polypainting (rgb + Zadd). And more and more… Hmm, the only limit of ZB seems to be the Mac-version (yet).

I like it a lot for two reasons.
First the model is realy balanced
good, slight tilt of the shoulders and the head help on concept of thought that is definitely there,
Second I like the fact that you post your work “unpolished” if I can say so. There is more artistry and craft there as if it was polished and clean. You can see almost every stroke how you went on building the character just as one would see in real clay. Hope to see more work from you this way.

Fatmiri

its good job Rayan, however, to me the mouth little small here. Also if you can use different size of rake brushes, it will bring more character for the sculpture.

cool Ryan! Your strokes remind me of van gogh and i think it would be kinda fun someday when you’re about 95 and have a minute or two to relax to do a zsculpt/study of one of his self portraits!

art is emerging from zbrush and you my friend, have done it agian!

Thanks for the notes guys.

impertinent - very cool! glad you like that brush!

Aminuts - great idea! I will try my own self portrait in the vain of van gogh next time. :+1: :+1:

Progress of the Thinker:

Ey Ryan, can you tell me what steps do you follow to sculpt the cranium?.
Sorry about my english. ( I recommend all you to learn spanish  )

Very nice! From your movies and other posts, you have a good solid methodical way of establishing your form. But then what’s really nice about your work is that you can take it a lot further than that and add feeling and emotion on top of it. Outstanding stuff!

Awesome! :+1:

really cool modeling, traditional sculpture way…

I’ll work on an explanation of it. In short, I draw the skull in there first then I add the muscles and fat from there. If my skull is right in the beginning then I don’t need to do anymore work.

wow perfect just perfect. It looks as if it is a real life sculpt I would pay to see this in a museum. I just love it. You are a really great artist. wow again. I have to ask did you change the mouth in the top pics or was it just the angle of the render? This should be top row. A loyal fan always.

It is truly astounding how masterful your peices are, such a source of artistic wonders =).

Masterful as always Ryan. That rake brush is magic.
