Thin wall masking

New to ZBrush, is their a way to mask " one side" of a surface with out it going thru to the other side using the masking brushes?

I have tried to use back face masking, no luck so far.

The surface i am working with is concave so turning the object to the side view and deleting the unwated area of masking with a selection doesn’t work.

See attached file.

Hi,
I think one way is to set the draw size as small as possible and set the Z intensity to a low value.
If after masking one side only the masking still shows through to other side slightly, you can blur the masking several times, then sharpen it-then the show through to other side dissapears.
I hope this is useful,it is first time I have offered any information to anyone on ZBCentral.

It’s little bit tricky but its easy…!

Just Separate the concave and convex side using poly groups…i think u can use select lasso brush to separate then make them two poly groups and then u can hide the unwanted side and then make details on the visible part and then bring back the hidden part…

hope it helps! let me know if any doubts!

Adding to AnR3D,

You can zoom very close to the center of the object, select one polygon of the wall that you want to protect, and then in the visibility menu, hit Grow many times, until you select the whole inner or outer wall. and then just proceed to polygroup and mask.

Backface masking should work fine with that shape - but note that it is an automatic effect, you can’t see the masking. If you want to use ordinary masking with it then it will only work with the MaskPen brush and you need to hold Ctrl to switch on Backface Masking for that brush.
