The ZBrush 1.5 Demo is now available!
Now you can sample all of ZBrush 1.5’s powerful new 2D and 3D tools and functions.

In addition to new features, you’ll find significant enhancements in nearly every tool and palette. You’ll get expanded and improved 2.5D painting capabilities, texturing options, and sculpting utilities, plus many behind-the-scene changes which make ZBrush even more potent!

New features include:

  • ZSpheres: Create a multi-limbed skeleton, and use a variety of options to create a clean 3D mesh in your choice of resolutions.

  • Alpha Skinning: Paint any image using depth-enriched paint, then convert your painting to a 3D object.

  • New painting brushes and strokes: Paint and texture in ways never before possible.

  • Many more enhancements: New features and enhancements which make ZBrushing more powerful, effortless, and rewarding.

Already own ZBrush? Also included in the Demo are previews of some recently-added features which will soon be available in the next ZBrush commercial release. (Certain new features, such as Displacement Bump Mapping, are scheduled to be released in the next commercial version).

Whooha!!! Happy holidays!!! Thanks Pixologic!! But it’s the last free update! :(…me starts to save.

D’oh! I see the word DEMO now! lol But it will tide me over!

Ooooo  /me claps and skips over to the download page to check it out.

Just a quick first impression… You need to put the demo folder into your C drive. After that, something strange happens to the side bar on the right(everything disappears) and the script window covers the whole screen. Also, I don’t think it likes Graphics Tablets.
And where has the Quick 3d edit option gone in the preference menu?? Maybe it’s not in the demo only…hopefully.
Now on to the good stuff!

Should 1.5 owners download this demo also? Is it different from the original 1.5 purchased download?

There are a few new features worth checking out if you already are a version 1.51 user. For example, the demo has cubical skinning and the attractor ZSpheres (to help control the final mesh). These new features will also be in the bonus upgrade, but anyone who would like to check them out early is welcome to do so.

KenH: What you are referring to with the ZScript window taking up most of the screen is part of the new interface features. If you take a look at the top right of the title bar, you will see that there are several new buttons. These allow you to quickly change the interface layout to suit your needs. One of them is a ZScript maximized window so that you don’t have to scroll so much to read a script with lots of text or graphics. This is the layout that the Default ZScript calls automatically. There’s also a configuration for brand new users, the default configuration, a button to call your custom configuration, and even one to hide everything but the canvas. In short, it’s now easier than ever to adapt the interface to suit your needs.

Be sure to check out the various ZScripts that come with the demo (including the “Click Me First” one and the Interface script) These explain the enhancements to the interface and the other new features.

I am back from vacation!! ADD THIS IS AN AWESOME PRESENT!
THANK YOU PIXOLOGIC!!! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

I should probably post this in the feedback and troubleshooting forum, hope this is OK. I’ve downloaded the 1.55 demo twice and keep getting errors when unzipping:
“An error has occurred while writing the extracted file to disk.” if I attempt to run the program I then get a long series of “unable to open file” errors related to various items in a non-existant “ZResources” folder. i.e. “C\ZBRD155\ZBRUSHDEMO\ZResources\Images\LightMaps\DefaultDiffuse” etc, followed by an access violation crash. I’m running Win2K sp3.
???

Thank you,

What unzipping utility are you using? I would recommend WinZip (www.winzip.com). Be sure that the “Use Folder Names” option is checked in the Extract dialogue box.

Also, are you using any kind of download aid/companion program? Some of those can mess up the download.

Finally, if you have any antivirus software running, it could conceivably interfere with the extraction since there is of course an executable in the folder. Try disabling it before unzipping.

I think this tops the Christmas presents for this year!

Thank you Pix, Aurick, Zuzu and Davey!

How do u use/find the attractor ZSpheres ?

/zued the swede

found it!!!

Thank you aurick, WinZip worked. It’s the first file I’ve seen ACDZip mangle. Back to WinZip!

I’ve gone no further than cubic mapping yet, I’ve been having so much fun… I’ve been as truely engrossed in it as with anything else I’ve done before in my life. Theres such an ocean of possibilities , and I know that zbrush goes as deep as I go (and, then so often it seems 10x deeper)…

A seemingly endless number of incredible images and entirely new sensations, I’m telling you, for me, zbrush brings DISCOVERY and INSPIRATION in BUCKETS!! And they call it software… HA! Hardcore mind/talent expansion is what I call it!!

Thanks yet again pixologic. Your right up there next to Darwin on my list. Keep it up
}

wow!
I have been dying to try out this new version, and man,it doesn’t disapoint.
zspheres are incredible,i have seen nothing like it in any other 3D app .
i look forward to purchasing this as soon as i can squeeze enough money from my budget(new home, missus and sprog to feed
but in the meantime i’m gonna have plenty fun learning all the new features.
excellent job with the zscript tutorials too,
definately eases the new features learning curve.i am totally engrossed right now.
many thanks to Pixolator and Zcrew .

What good news !!
Tnx Pixolator !!!

Looks good, Mr. Pix! Opening with the new default ZScript is a great idea, with the thumbnail pics as doors into the various tours and tutorials :+1: I believe this will provide a very friendly introduction to new users.

I think I’ll be up late tonight … :sunglasses:

I’ve returned with another silly question.
Now that I’ve downloaded the demo, do I re-register it to unlock displacement mapping?
Or, should I keep it separate from my currently registered 1.5 and wait for the full release of 1.55?

Thanks,

Our demos don’t “unlock” to become full versions. They are their own version.

The preview features from the demo will be included in the bonus upgrade to version 1.6, which will be made available to you as an existing ZBrush owner for free as soon as it’s ready.
