The Thing (norris spider)

This is a project i started working on just before christmas, with the aim of putting in abit of work on it when i got the odd spare moment over the holidays, and finished it yesterday.
it is the head that tears its self from its body, grows legs and walks off for those that may not know from the film the thing.
i did a few render passes and combined them in photoshop, and did a bit of touch up also.
i will post some pictures of the process later today

awesome…i love the thing…classic!

one crit i have is the legs…they seem (to me) to be too ‘fat’ and equal with the distribution of diameter throughout the leg(s). i think it would be better to have the ‘fattness’ more in the joint areas and then ‘thinned’ out progressively towards the tips of the legs. i don’t have any screenshots though to reference from the movie…i’m goin’ from memory.

for the scene…it might be cool to add some props and snow maybe…and slime!

Yeah one of my favourite horror film too along with the Night of the living dead!
For me farelly better than the Alien series…but I have a soft spot for Carpenter :)!
If you wanna go further with this work you should detail the teeth too…Give a reddish tint to the eyes, as skinnybonez says go in detail on the legs (for the articulation for example)…and the lightning needs an improvement too, I think you want to show too much…

heres what i ahve managed to get done so far, nowhere near done yet, gotta work more on it, but like i said this is what i got in the last hour or so.

“you gotta be fuc*ing kidding”, man i love this movie, okay some suggestions, more specularity, the creature was always slimy, more hairs, he was also somewhat fatter and at this point something weird was going on with his eyes, and the legs need to be more pointy. but great start! oh and the tounge was more like a whip remember.

i have addeed some hair, not to keen on it though so gona work on it abit more. added more spec and some slime around the face, i am gona try another version with alot more on it though, made the legs more pointed, just rough though using liquify just to get a feel for it. i watched the scene where his head splits off, and indeed it does need fattening up abit, the whip tongue however isnt used when it sprouts legs, just when its dragging its head, i think it could look cool with the tongue though so i will give it a try. heres what i got so far anyway. thanks for the advice! much appreciated
