The Stare

I am hoping the blank expression speaks for itself, but just incase I will explain.

My inspiration for the piece is a painting by WWII artist Tom Lea. [http://www.nps.gov/pwro/piso/peleliu/lea2.htm](http://www.nps.gov/pwro/piso/peleliu/lea2.htm) The engraving at the bottom reads: To the Stars through Thorns. Software: XSI, Zbrush, Photoshop. I would enjoy reading any feedback you may have to offer!

Very good work. Love the texture on the kevlar and flack vest…and the patch:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

I have a buddy home on R and R right now…he wears a stare like that at times now…

Love your work on this piece.

Char…nice work, I like that style. Only a nit pick item…maybe make the reflection in the one eye a bit smaller. Other than that, I love it.
Look forward to more from you.

And Ron, nice to see you back my friend.

Word.

…maybe re-work a little the eyes
Cool modeling

Great subject for a model. The stare is the most important thing about it, so like Pilou said, the eyes need some work, they look a bit artificial. I haven’t made one good eye myself, but it looks like there need to be a little more inset and darkness between the eyeball and the eyelids… How? Don’t ask me…

Looks very nice so far. I think the stare he has is not quite the “1,000 year stare” of the original painting. Yours has more of a pathos while the original has more of a “mental shut down” look. Just my opinion. Looks good otherwise.

Excellant! I love pictures like this,…so real, you’d swear they could move. 50.

Thanks for the replies, folks.

I went through hell and back to get the XSI to Zbrush pipeline. Apparently the pdf guide didn’t work the way it was suposed to… But now things are figured out!
