The Sketchbook of TiMrozek

Thanks a lot MGebhart. Doin my best. It’s starting to really hit me how much this is. Given, I do usually sculpt every day, but to have to try to have a complete character every day definitely is a challenge. Anyway, here is kind of a big dump since I haven’t posted for a few days. Still going strong, maybe not as strong, but still strong, probably gonna get my third or fourth wind soon.

Well, Thanksgiving week was a quick and busy one so some of these weren’t my favorite and I just had to move on before I was happy with a few. Still I want to post all of them so here they are for better or worse. I’m holding off on the last 3 until I finish the final 30th. I promise those 3 are on a much higher level than some of these.

I finished the 30 Characters challenge in 30 days!!! This month has certainly been an enlightening and exhausting month. It’s mostly been a blast though. I’d really recommend this sort of thing to anyone really trying to improve their zbrush skills. Forcing oneself to do a character every day, no matter what, really teaches you how to settle on decisions quicker, find good ways to streamline your workflow, and just makes one more comfortable with sculpting. Anyway, I won’t ramble for too long. I was really happy with my last 3. I decided to not let the burnout get to me and probably ended up putting more time and effort into my final 3 than all the others.

Hope you enjoy!

Thanks Redsib.

Been quite awhile since I’ve posted anything, so while this isn’t final, thought it would be nice to get back onto this thread and start adding a few of the things I’ve been up to as of late. For now, here’s a screen capture of a current model I’m doing for cgsociety’s 33rd hardcore modeling challenge. 10 points to whoever knows who it is (hint, he’s missing some major features, and the challenge is Masters of Anime). I’ve got a long way to go on him, but I’ve spent a lot of time now working on his face.

Well, this work in progress should make it a bit more obvious as to who this old goofy headed man is. Any crit is welcome. As I think I said before, this is for the hardcore modeling challenge over at cgsociety, but I want to make sure I keep up with my sketchbook, and show zbrushcentral some of the love it deserves. Really looking forward to using some of the new noisemaker features recently added. I can’t post it here, but it already came in real handy on a modeling project I had for a show today.Anyway, update as promised:

I don’t know his name, but he is from Spirited Away (or Sen To Chihiro No Kamikakushi, if you prefer).

Looking good. You have some nice work!

Thanks SwampGhost! The challenge is wrapping up. I’ve decided that I want to use zbrush for all of my rendering so I started playing around with some of the newer lightcap features. Somehow I just totally missed this feature. Anyway, here are two tests I did for the lighting. The first is a tad darker than I would like for the final, but I still liked the result and wanted to share:

The second is very different, just wanted to try out the image based lighting in zbrush. I used the pixologic_incendascence panorama that ships with zbrush as my base. Baked it down to a lightcap and did a few alterations to some of the lights. Gave a kinda cool quality.

Yeeeah great work, totally love the composite. The sculpt and the design is great too.
One thing though, I would rework or rethink the render of the image. You can definently get alot more from it, if you work more on it!
Because the sculpt and the idea really is nice:) Day 13 the sculpt is your best in my oppinion:+1:
Looking forward seeing the end result!
All the best and happy sculpting,

  • Kenny

Thanks Kenny. I agree, I’m losing a lot of the detail work that I’m doing in these setups. These are just test for general feel, and just familiarizing myself with using lightcap. I’m hoping to wrap up all sculpting on the model today so I can spend the rest of the challenge (til thursday) on working on the model’s presentation. Also, thanks, glad you liked day 13. It’s definitely one of my favorites.

I finished, for now anyway, the model over the weekend so I could spend the 4 days leading up to the Thursday deadline focusing on using all the fun new render/fibermesh capabilities of zbrush. I really want to take the time to show the model off, so this evening I came up with this lighting/material setup. I think I’m gonna use this or something very similar to show off the details and closeups. Any comments or crit would be welcome. Thanks:

Been pretty busy for the past year, but have been terrible at keeping my sketchbook updated. So wanted to share a work in progress of my current personal project along with a few other things I’ve been workin on over the past few months. First, one of my favorite characters from one of my favorite shows. General shape of face still needs some work and detail.

and some other stuff:

and a little speed sketch time lapse I put together for a presentation I gave to my sister’s 3rd grade class:

He needs his cigarettes!

Glad you recognized him. Yep, gonna be modeling some shoes, and detailing his hands, then comes signature Morleys.

In an effort to keep this thread a little more active, here are some more works in progress of the smoking man. I promise he’ll be smoking soon.

Hello all, haven’t updated the sketchbook for a bit. I just wanted to share one of my newest works. It is a recreation of an ancient Greek earring of the goddess Nike. The original earring is now housed at the Museum of Fine Art in Boston, MA. I thought the detail and state of the actual model was pretty exquisite and impressive considering it was made over 2000 years ago. Hope you like my take on it.

TiMrozek, great job! Very realistic.

Perhaps this material is useful to you.
I’ve been doing for the “Oscar”.

Lexxx69 - Thanks a lot for the kind words. And thanks for the materials. Gonna have a look. By the way, had a look at your work. I really love all the relief sculpts you are doing. Always great to see people using zbrush in a way that not many others are. And yours are really successful at the style.

Made me realize, I didn’t talk about the image at all. Entire thing was sculpted in zbrush, mostly from zspheres and zremeshed spheres. Also a couple bases modeled in maya. The final render was done in maya with a custom mia shader I made. Nothing fancy, just a lot of tweaking to get the right reflective quality and all.
