Hello.
Just a bit about myself, as I’m a new user here.
I LOVE ZBRUSH! 'Nuff said.
All kidding aside, I’m an amateur artist looking to break into the video game industry. I went to a crummy school for a year and just about all I got out of it was inspiration on what I wanted to do, and from there I’ve been entirely self taught. It’s been about 5 years now.
I’m also a late bloomer as an artist, as I discovered 3d modeling in general when I was about 25 years old and before that I never really had any creative release save through my previous career choice as a Chef (which I decided I didn’t want to do after all).
The past 6 months or so I’ve become incredibly focused on improving my artwork. I feel I’m at an edge, a turning point, where just a little more focus, a little more hard work, and I’ll cross a threshold and move on to the next level. Anyone else get a feeling like this once in a while?
Anyway, I tend to work in stages, with goals in mind, and my goal over the next few months is to improve in the following areas:
Hands - One of the most expressive parts of the human body, and I’ve always glossed over them. I have a really difficult time both with the anatomy of the hand, and actually sculpting it as well. I find it very difficult to work on individual fingers while keeping the entire hand in mind. I find that when I sculpt them, they end up crooked, or angled wrong, twisted in some way that just doesn’t look right. This is my #1 priority in my artwork at the moment.
Pose - I’m creative moron when it comes to posing my character. I try different things and nothing seems to look right. I look at other user images for inspiration, and still I can’t seem to ‘imagine’ something up for my own characters. So I end up with a character that I may like, yet I get bored looking at it in a basic t-pose and then get unhappy about my sculpt. I hope to steal a lot of ideas from other users here and even copy some things exactly so that I can better understand the subtleties and how they affect the viewer.
Tiny Environment - Just the simple process of setting up a small platform for my characters and models. Again, I’m a creative dud here and I really need to improve this if I hope to get a job in the field.
So those are the 3 basic things for the immediate future. There’s also environments in general but for now my plate is full of goals and I’ll get to full environments after.
I was unsure how to start this thread, so I’ll include some of my latest work, and the rest of the thread is only looking to the future.
Cheers, and I’m really looking forward to improving my artwork through this community and growing alongside you guys.
