Here is another update. I have been working on the texturing and finer details. Still a ways to go though

The eyes and background are Photoshop. Everything else is ZBrush.

Comments and critisisms are welcome…

Hi All,

I decided to take the old guy into Maya and start playing aroung with Subsurface Scattering. I’m pretty happy with the results but there is probably too much back weighting on the SSS. This has inspired me to go back and redo some parts of the old dude. Some parts of him are a little sloppy (mainly the mouth annd texture) because he was only ever meant for a proof of concept for a character that I will be making in the future.

I’d love some comments of what you think so far.

ps Sorry about the grainy sequence, Gifs can only go so far :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice one.

Good detail on the textured one, and got the skin looking great.

A bit futher along now. I have added Wrinkles!!!

He has got a little thinner and younger as well.

Will do some more SSS and texture (using Kris Kosta’s amazing technique) experiments once the displacement has finished rendering.

I have made a bit of a bumble during the modelling process and haven’t created the eye sockets with eye balls in mind. That is, they aren’t rounded and spheres tend to jut through the eyelids.

Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to fix this? My main problem is I can’t use a sphere as a reference object because I can only have one active mesh at a time (as far as I know). Any help would be greatly appreciated

Another update, Added the texture using Kris “Antropus” Kosta’s Technique.

So much fun!!!

Love to know what everyone thinks

SSS still to come…

Great texture! Love it all the way! *****

Yainderidoo

Thanks Yainderidoo. Appreciate it

Still Going

This was rendered in Maya 6 with Mental Ray and Subsurface scattering.

Hmmm, might add some hair using shave and Haircut next

Really want to add eyes as well but until I figure out a way to fix the eye sockets (make 'em round so the eyeballs don’t intersect with the eyelids) I’ll have to put that off until I have more time.

Nice job mate. Just checked out the Antropus quickies… yep, ok… pretty cool!

I do think I like the second last one more than the last as it loses some of the nice detail youve got. Perhap when you add some spec and shadowing it will highlight it.

Thanks for the advice matey. I have the specularity set quite low and I lowered the displacement for the last one. The main change was in the epidermal layer (higher). I will give it a go with the displacement value set a bit higher  Just playing around with adding some hair. Haven’t really played with it much so there is a bit of a learning curve involved. Ah well… always something else to learn

Now I must go to bed before my eyes start bleeding… or maybe I’ll just try a couple more things :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi All,

Just a preliminary hair test. Need to fix up where the stubble forms but you get the general idea. I have yet to do the hair on the top of his head.
